recommended material for intake hoses / pipes
hey group, i've searched the archives, but wasn't able to find anything too useful. i may have missed it, but either way, thought i'd post the question:
i have an '83 r100rt i bought about 6 months ago, and am starting to do some maintenance on it while it's put up for the winter. first on the list is replacing the intake tract plumbing, which on one occasion has literally fallen off the bike during a ride. the previous owner had mounted some mikuni 38mm carbs, and had used a mixture of the stock adapters (for the 40mm bings) and some 'improvised' silicone adapters. what material is recommended for replacing the (now deteriorated) silicon parts? is there a better option? should i just plan on replacing them every year or two? any other ideas? thanks in advance! |

Talk to Stan at Rocky Point, he should be able to set you up with a workable solution. http://www.rockypointcycle.com/c-bmw...carb_kits.html

I've seen custom intakes made from radiator hose. Don't know how long it lasted but it looked good when it was new.

+1 Go spend some time at your local auto parts store. It's cheaper. |

Radiator hose will fail, not made for anything but water and antifreeze.

Don't use radiator hose. It will not hold up to gas. Use fuel filler hose. The stock intake rubbers/tubes have a 52mm ID.
