My buddy is riding through Guatemala and needs to drill new holes in his panniers to shift them back for riding two up on his XR650 back up to Texas. Other than Henry, does anyone have a recommendation for a mechanic or a drill he could use?

I'm a big fan of DeWALT, they make excellent drills

Does that help?

Heh, I wasn't clear enough...he was looking for someone who had a drill in Antigua he could use. He got it sorted out though and him and his girlfriend are off on his XR650 to Lake Atitlan and then through Mexico...back to San Antonio where he lives :)

Looking for some assistance in Guatemala - Bike Storage

Buenos Dias! Advriders in Guatemala. My wife and I are about to embark on our 8 month South America motorcycle trip aboard our 2008 GSA. We live in Manzanillo, Colima in Mexico. I am about to apply for a Permanent Residency Visa in Mexico as I have been living in Mexico for the last 4 years, but first need to remove my Alberta Canada registered GSA which is here in Manzanillo under a TVIP. As a permanent resident in Mexico I am not allowed a foreign vehicle and therefore have to get the bike out before they will give me PR or else my moto becomes illegal. As our travel dates coincide with the PR visa application it makes the most sense to ride the moto to Guatemala and fly back to Manzanillo and begin the PR process which should take no longer than 2 weeks. (We have sought out other options to take the bike out after receiving the PR Visa but it is too risky)

Accordingly, I am looking for secure short term storage for the moto of approx 2 - 3 weeks. Probably in Guatemala City - i think - as I will fly out of there back to Manzanillo. I have contacted the BMW dealer in Guate City and they will store the bike for a rate of $5 a day. This is an option but am hoping to find a more cost effective solution. If anyone has any ideas or can recommend a good place for storage, I am :)

As of right now my plan would be to arrive in Guatemala on the 15th of October, with the intention of storing the bike and flying back to Manzanillo on Oct 16th - give or take day. My wife and I would fly down to Guatemala City on or about Nov 1st to retrieve the moto and start our ride beginning with traveling around Guatemala.

We hope to meet up with some of you and perhaps do some riding together in Guatemala.

Any suggestions would be sincerely appreciated!

Marc & Nadia in Manzanillo

Saludos fellow riders,

Anyone know of <300cc bikes for sale? I have a friend looking to buy herself a moto and thought I'd check in with the guate folks here.

Hello,

Anyone know about CA Tours?

I understood it was run by a couple of English guys but that appears not to be the case anymore?

Are they still good to deal with?

Thanks,

Nick.

PS. I'll be passing through Guatemala at the end of Oct if any ADV'ers fancy a beer.

Sent from a little keyboard using fat fingers......

CA Tours

The BMW Dealer in Guatemala City runs tours. They had a booth at the MOA Rally in Oregon last year.

Thanks but not looking for a tour. Need a place where I can work on my bike, oil change and maybe tyres.

Nick.

I rented a little yamaha from them a month ago and was very pleased with it, in excellent condition and at $50 a day not too expensive either. Gear included. Friendly people, too.
