Nacimiento-Fergusson Rd Question

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know if I can take Nacimiento-Fergusson Rd going East all the way to the 101?

This is the route I am talking about - http://goo.gl/maps/yieVg

The reason I ask is that Google Maps says that "This route has restricted usage or private roads.". So wanted to make sure that I would be able to get through there.

I believe that is in reference to the military base.

Check the Caltrans site. But you might need to show ID, proof of insurance and registration documents at Ft. Hunter-Liggett.

yes you can get through
there is a possibility of two military check points, So have a license and insurance ready and watch your speed MPs are looking to do something out of boredom.

I haven't ridden that road in a few years, but it goes through a military base of some sort. When I went through (2005?, 2006?) I had to go through a check point and they wanted to see my license and registration and they made me open my saddle bags. Wasn't really a big deal, but if you are in the habit of carrying a firearm or something then you might run into trouble...

I rode through last spring and they wanted everything except blood type (DL/Reg/Ins). I went through a couple months ago and nobody was at the gate when we entered (the west) or leaving through the main gate - we rode right through without stopping.

PCH to 101-No problem. My son & I did it the other way a year ago. We did have our paper work in order, DL, registration and insurance. As we approached the entrance, we were waved through with no stop or check whatsoever. It was mid-morning on a weekday and no one was around. If you have a few minutes be sure to check out the Mission San Antonio de Padua on FHL.

Its Fort Hunter Liggett. Yeah.. its open and all paved. As previously stated, have D/L, reg and proof of insurance in your jacket pocket. You may have to show them on entry or exit from the base.

The best way to do it is West to East.. great views going down the steep, windey West slope over the mountain to Hwy 1.

I rode through on a bicycle last May on a weekday. No guards, no problems, no hassles. Beautiful road, one of my favorites.

At the top before you drop down into/away from the coast, there is a dirt road that runs north and south along the range. I haven't explored it but others here have. Might be worth looking up if you have time.

There's a big project going on over at Camp Roberts. Several hundred of those 'temporary' buildings that were erected in the 50's are finally being demolished.

Have all the previously mentioned paperwork available to show. DL, Reg, Ins etc. I did it in 2011 and didn't have to stop as it wasn't manned that was Mid-May. Be warned, cold weather raining, you can see rain, freezing rain, hail and snow all in the course of an hour going over that road so be prepared. Last time, temps hit 35F with rain snow sleet and hail at various altitudes.

But dry weather, that road is very exciting.

I rode from Hwy 1 to 101 a few months ago. No guards at either entrance to Hunter Liggett. But at least one paved side road was closed temporarily for troop maneuvers. So be flexible and have plenty of fuel. The dirt FS road at the top of the Coast Range ridge was closed northbound, but open southbound. There's been enough rain this fall already that they may both be closed. But the pavement is in great shape and traffic is very light.
