Noob help, please.

It was suggested I ask this hear.

Sorry fellas, I'm very ignorant about electrical things. Searched for a while, but I believe my question is just to damn simple.

I want to add a 12v outlet (nothing fancy) to my 08 1200gs around the fairing mount. Can I just hard wire to the battery with an inline fuse or does this affect the bike in some negative manner?

It's only for the cell phone charger and it can stay hot all the time if that's safe. I don't know squat about this CANBUS thingy.

Thanks in advance!!!

Yes, you can hook the outlet directly to the battery without doing any harm to the bike. It will in no way affect the CAN-BUS system.

100 THREADS all GS/GSA owners should read.

3. HOW COME MY HEATED CLOTHING, AIR COMPRESSOR, POWER OUTLET ETC DOESN'T WORK?

After you get done reading about installing the Powerlet socket...there are a LOT more threads (submitted by other inmates) that you will definitely find helpful in the "100 Threads". Grab a cup of coffee...or a pot...this will take awhile.

Is Wil-E any relation?

Not a silly question at all

Yes you can. No it will not effect can-bus at all. I have done exactly the same with my 2007 GSA, running up to a socket on a Touratech instrument surround. I use it to recharge phone /camera/ ipod etc. Just remember it will be drawing on your battery even when the ignition is off. A plug with an LED is a good reminder to pull it out when you stop.

You should be able to use the same plug for a battery charger, too.

Here's what I added to my 2009 12GS. It's a little pricey but fits and works well.

Now that's cool...I guess I could swing 80 bucks and do it right. Thanks for the heads up, Callisto.
