KTM 690 Air Temp Sensor Repair

A common problem with the 690 is the wires to the air temperature sensor breaking which causes a fault code to appear on the speedo. Its is a simple fix but a bit fiddly.

The Problem

Release the sensor from the Air Box and remove the rubber bung. I used a small nail and picked it right out.

You need to get a couple of short peices of wire to splice in between the sensor and the broken cable ends. Solder the two splices onto the tabs on the sensor. This is a bit tricky but I managed it so you will have no worries

Next thing is to solder the other end onto the cable. Now is the time to slip the rubber bung over the wires as well as some heat shrink wrap then solder your extension wires to the exiting ones.

Once thats done, slip the heat shrink back over the joints, toast them up and your good to go.

No more warning light

I'm going to send KTM an e-mail on our behalf to see if we can get the parts fiche pdf's for the wiki.

I don't expect them, but asking only rarely hurts .

Just got some gems from superplush on adapting their guide about the 950 to the 690 for the wiki (and their permission to post their info )

Oh does anyone have a link to a fork/shock spring replacement walkthrough for the 690, and/or a valve check walkthrough?

Added a suspension theory and tuning guide by James Siddall at Superplush Suspension. Adpated from the 950 guide but with info specific to our 690's.

And added wiring diagrams for '08 and '10 model years enduro/smc's.
