FJR 1400 Rumored to be in the works...

Saw in the recent Motorcyclist that word from Europe is Yamaha is working on a new FJR 1400 with the crossplane crank using the R1 tech in a larger displacement. Could be a sweet sport touring rig, time will tell. It is for sure due for an update after a 10 year run.

Good. I'd like to see them innovate, this time.

Yeah, the C14 got a big upgrade in '08. The R1200RT in '05. And the new VFR1200 is out.
The K1600 looks fabulous, but for a lot more dosh.
The FJR is still a great bike, but it is getting to be seriously long in the tooth.

Big adventure traily tourers have take a lot of the wind out of the sails of
the sport tourer market, though.

Don't take this as gospel, but it is true a new FJR has been in the works for a couple years now, but don't expect it to make it state side as a 2013 unfortunately.

The word is, while it was not a huge bomb, but sales of the Super Tenere wasn't as brisk as they hoped in the states and quite reserved on bringing a new non-superbike/cruiser model into the states right now.

I believe it will be released into the European market initially before coming over state side, perhaps in 2014????

I was a bit bummed to hear this and hope it proves to be incorrect. I'll be in the market for a sport-tourer later this year.

Your 05 busa is a sport tourer, the GTR/FJR are plain tourers!

BTW I also own an 05 busa and I would never even think twice to cover long distances on anything else. Only touring mod I've done is a slightly higher screen and slightly higher clipons.

See, in the states, the Busa is a crotch rocket and the FJR is a sport tourer.

Interesting stuff. I would rather Yamaha launch a Big Bang FZ1 though..

I would love to see a crossplane cranked FZ1 or FJR.

If they make an FJR1400, it may replace my K1200LT...

Hopefully it will be 6 speed, or maybe they should leap ahead of everyone and put in a 7 speed.

I always felt like I needed more power in my FJR. Bumping the rev limiter as I crossed the finish line in second gear at an indicated 126 mph in the quarter just isn't enough power for real world riding.

Can't say I believe it, but they are moving in the wrong way if true. Shave some weight 1st, then I'd be interested.
