I hate to see this too. I did a squid ride this spring and man, what a mess. Saw a kid crash on a Gixxer and hear of a few that got arrested for fucking around.

Oh wait, this isn't Jo Momma. Those bastards! How dare they pass slower traffic! Nope, that's too far the other way. Let's stick with watching those mirrors and let idiots be idiots.

I'm willing to "let the idiots be idiots" if they only kill themselves - that's Darwinian behavior, especially if they die before procreating.
If they kill someone else, even indirectly, they need 25-to-life in prison. As it is, they need at least 72 hours in jail and a stiff fine to cool off. Too bad the law isn't this advanced. This behavior only belongs on the race track - that's why we build them.

I see this all the time on my local roads. I just keep trying to remember that we call them squids for a valid reason.
I have seen them run right into rock faces, off the side of the road and into the ocean, as well as impaled in the front of a few cars and trucks. None of it is pretty. The biggest problem is when they take out someone else. |

No passing zones are created by traffic engineers who are considering the abilities of an average car (or even a very good one) and the time and space they require to pass. Motorcycles don't really fit the equation at all. A bike can pass another bike without leaving the lane, often on either side, and only take a fraction of the time of a typical car. I think the OP was angry at being surprised by people riding much faster and possibly more capably than he. I think he should get over it and move on with his life. And as for "This behavior only belongs on the race track"...you didn't actually see it and it really wasn't discribed in detail. All you know for sure is that somebody got passed in a no passing zone and they didn't like it. People don't like being surprised by the realization that something was going on that they weren't aware of everywhere, not just at racetracks. |

I have absolutely no problem passing cars or slower bikes in no passing zones. Zero. None. That having been said, a pass like that should be executed in the safest and quickest way possible because of a couple of reasons. Firstly, it's illegal. Secondly, you don't want to hurt yourself and/or others. Let's not forget that people don't expect to be passed in such zones and you can surprise the hell out of someone causing harm you certainly didn't intend, but nonetheless caused. Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. Generally speaking, "my bike can do things your car can't" does not excuse being a douche.

Somebody got passed and didn't like it. And they wanted to tell us all about it.

What's the point of these types of post, venting? We have a board here for that. If you go to a sport bike forum, and you'll have posts where some guys are complaining about a flotilla of Harley pirates. Go to a cruiser forum, and you'll have posts where some guys are complaining about squids on their crotch rockets. On a more general forum like ADV, we have to endure both. The respective "offenders" will never see the posts calling them out.
For what it's worth, when I'm performing a pass, any pass, I always try to be expedient in doing so. Sometimes, my level of expediency may offend some people's sensibilities momentarily, and I am truly sorry. As far as the concept of "illegal passing," there's some rural stretches of road around here with little (if any) cross traffic and for whatever reason, it's a double yellow for miles. The speed limit is 55, but often, you'll come across someone tootling along at 35-40 like they were still in city limits. So, will I perform an illegal pass on occasion? Assuming the road and traffic conditions allow for a pass, yes, I will. Obviously, trying to pass with oncoming traffic close, on hills, blind corners, etc. is asinine, but it comes down to a judgment call.

There is nothing in my post that makes any assumptions about anything that the OP said happened. Read it again.
Other than that, I agree completely. This guy read the same first post as I did... Quote:

![]() ![]() ![]() On the other end of things... just for entertainment's sake... I had someone recommend a local sport riders board. From the looks of the soft-porn avatars, I assumed that most of the members had testosterone poisoning. My friend, who is retarded when he gets on his bike and has four crashes in the last year to prove it, said, "No, they are really cool and this is an easy ride..." So, I went in the back... on a day where roads were wet and there was plenty of gravel... and I got dropped, because I was not going 25 to 30 over the speed limit. Thing is... next time... I will ask these arseholes... "How much do you pay in insurance every month for your one bike?" Because I pay $38 USD/ Month on mine... lmao. Don't take it personally, just get on with your ride, dude! I see all kinds of sh&t antics up at the Dragon and I just like to put as much space between me and them, because I would rather be riding than picking up body parts and getting interviewed by the po po...

I dont like to get passed like I am standing still in a blind corner. I also hate to see local guys take the helicopter ride, and worse things than that can happen.
So I did troll the AL sport bike forum. Sort of. Here is what I put there. http://www.alabamasportbike.com/view...hp?f=4&t=11655 |
