Just riding

Haven't posted for awhile. Just been riding. Just received a very nice plaque from BMW NA and pin from BMWMOA for 200,000 miles. My 800 just passed 50,000 miles. Will soon replace the chain and sprockets only for the 2nd time. Bike has been the best bike I have ever ridden. Just does everything I could want from a ride.

Out of interest, are you running any sort of chain oiler, or are you manually lubing the chain?

That is great!

I love my F650GS too. Got it well farkled for wandering. Will pass 40k miles some time next summer and allow me to apply for the 200K mile pin too.

I can not find a better bike for my type of riding, back and secondary roads, at any price.

There is a thread or two somewhere on ADVRider on them (mostly the Scott brand), more interest on the
www.ukgser.com/ forum than here ...

I would guess that perhaps with the "average" weather being wetter in some parts of the UK the oiler would be a big plus. Since I don't typically see a lot of rain I waved off installing an oiler, and just oil the chain at the end of every day's ride just takes a minute and give me the opportunity to look for any new defects that might have cropped up.

Chain

I don't use a chain oiler. I just lub it every other fill up. On trips, I lub it if I ride more then 400 miles in a day. I clean it once in a while which actually isn't very often. If I do clean it, I just use WD-40, spray it one, wipe it off. Only have adjusted the current chain when I have changed tires.
