Thanks for sharing, and very nice photos! No more respectable way to go to the Daytona 200 than to ride there.

Be careful in LA (Lower Alabama) as the elderly can be a little feisty!!!

looked like a fun but exhausting trip, glad it was uneventful.

The motorcycle is a 2006 CBR 1000. It is basically stock. At one time it had a rear Ohlins shock, aftermarket slip-on, rear sets/clip-ons, and race fairings. All of the mentioned stuff was when I was doing track days and had thought about club racing. I put the stock exhaust back on for touring as the aftermarket draws to many negative stares. Only mode for touring is lowered rear sets, charging ports, and the luggage(also a bracket for supporting the side bags). The original color was the silver for that year. When doing track days I sold the oem bodywork, which is why it is a mixed set of oem black and aftermarket Repsol side fairings now. I found them cheap, and am also a huge Motogp fan so went with that set up.

The tent is an ALPS Mountaineering Mystique 1.5. I did a lot of reasearch on here. I found it on sale and went with it. It holds me and my gear easily. It barely allows me sit up though. I went with the Kelty Cosmic 20 down bag and 3/4 thermarest pad. These 3 items fit ok on each side bag top with bungee nets. I don't post much on here but the site has been a great resource for research even though my moto is not the typical ride.

Really enjoyed your write up. Thanks for the pics of Kissimmee park. Spent some time in that area back in the '70s and love the area. Nice to see it again.

have the same tent, yes not able to really sit up but long and plenty big to hold gear and good room under the two vestibules to hold boots and side cases, plus its compact and fits inside my top case. Great trip, liked the racing pics.

The place was interesting. When I first arrived, it reminded me of images of Africa plains I have seen. I believe it was military land at one time for training. I meant to get a picture of a warning sign that said do not stray off the roads due to unexploded ordinance in the area.

Yeah, that is another plus. Forgot to mention that. The rain fly extends past the tent base and makes a great place for airing out riding boots and clothing without getting the interior smelly.

Down the Keys and back?

I can never bring myself to do it. I need to stay on the islands for at least a few days to get sick of it or I'm too depressed leaving.

(Doesn't help that I'm usually down there to avoid the MD winter.

While riding through and back, I was thinking to myself it would be great to come down and move between the islands for about a week for a fun time.
