Monterey Leather Jacket 3/4 length
http://www.compacc.com/p/Shadow-Mont...eather-Jackets
I love it, thinking about ordering soon Anyone try this? They had one that people around here were talking about but this one is new, the old one didn't have vents or armor, so this looks like it could be a GREAT deal. |

They changed the name of the jacket. Humm. I wonder if the design has changed? What stopped me from buying the Meline was that it has no crash paddings or pockets for paddings. Also the sleeve cuff was big and has no means of buttoning or zipping it tight around the wrist. Others also mentioned the lack of vents |

this jacket was brough up in a thread before( thinking it was two years plus) the thickness of the leather was thought to be considerably less than most other motorcycle garb- i would add that i too like the styling

If you take an uncommon size jacket, you would be better off finding a used HGPD jacket. If you take a common size (42, 44, 46) the prices would be about twice what the uncommon sized jackets would run.

Yea I saw the one on that link, that's the old one I think. This one has the same general look, but does have armor and vents. I'm thinkin it might be a bit better made too. Don't have the coin to try it right at the moment being the holidays and all, but perhaps before riding season starts up again.....

I think I saw a vet along the torso toward the back. I do not recall seeing the spec say anything about armor. I have to go back and look again.
As for leather thickness, I thought it was thick or thicker than the typical jacket. I am getting old. Can't remember crap ..... so I may be wrong. |

The old version, the Miline, was advertised 1.5-1.7mm thick leather. Current model Monterey brags 1.2-1.3mm? I was attracted to the thick heavy leather in the old model.

I think 1mm or more is probably fine for street riding. I'd be more concerned about the stitching.

The leather here is too light to be of consequence. When a manufacturer gives a thickness range it usually errs toward the lower measure. Heavier examples (like the 80's HG Dakar) were too unwieldy for their own good. Better to go with motorcycle grade leather (1.5-1.7) at waist or slightly below length. This Monterey thing is just a fashion exercise.

Hey Mike,
Why doesn't someone make a good quality 3/4 armored leather jacket like the classic HG??? There certainly is an interest. Thanks, Motorman
