Test unit will also be used to try heat storage, stirling motors and other propulsion.

cool. still following - I might be the only one, but I'm intrigued!

You may want to consider posting at MachineBuilders - not that this isn't a great place here, but that outlet might be a little more receptive to discourse, as well as give you more coverage. There are subforums for alternative energy, live steam, etc, all things that you might be interested in or might fit your project better. I was a member there, but a few years ago they were hacked and everything was lost - I was mostly a reader anyhow, other than fabricating some things for my tractors and stuff.

Please have a look at this article that was written about my solar thermal car on the Arduino blog.

For the solar thermal car test unit I am building an electric hot oil pump out of garbage car parts. Have a look at the video below.

I would think the OP could find other forums more suitable for posting his project than Trip Planning section of ADVrider.

Maybe the Mods can move it to Jomama since really nothing to do bikes or ADVrider.

Hi John,

Things are great here in La Paz.

The solar thermal car is coming along nicely. I just finished building a hot oil pump from garbage car parts. It works very well and will be able to circulate the oil to transfer heat to the water for the 24 foot long mirror. There is a video in my next post.

I am now ready to start testing with my full width mirror test unit.

The homemade solar thermal car hot oil pump works!! In this video I run the pump and show how it works. I also measure the flow rate (which is about 15 litres per minute) and discover that this pump is powerful enough to circulate the oil for the 24 food long solar thermal car mirror.

I have successfully pumped oil at 150 degrees celsius with my homemade oil pump. Now I can install it into my solar thermal car test unit and pump hot oil to boil water and run a stream turbine. The Solar thermal car is really starting to come together. Please have a look at the video below.

Its alive. The large solar thermal test mirror rotates. A powerful motor rotates the mirror and locks it in position so its on target with the sun. A similar system will be used on the 24 foot long solar thermal car mirror. Have a look at the video of it working, below.

Great story!

I love this thread. There are a ton of pages.
It's titled "KLR650 around the world with passenger," yet
-there is no around the world
-there is no passenger
-there is no KLR 650 featured

It has turned into a story of a guy that made it to Mexico and is developing inexpensive solar solutions! Awesome. Just goes to show that it's tough to plan life, and how substantially one's story can change
