Glen Echo Park near Gympie

Hi Guys,
Thinking of loading up the ute and taking the kids to Glen Echo Park, Anybody been there recently, what is it like? May do a day trip and check out the camping facilities, but a heads up would be good.

I'm not a big fan of letting the kid loose in the forest, apart from that I don't own any registered dirt bikes.

Thoughts?

Pete

Been a while since we've been there, but camping facilities seem pretty good, there's a donkey boiler for hot showers, but it's BYO everything else. Some good kid's tracks, natural terrain MX tracks and some ripper single trail. I've heard they sold the back half of the property, so no longer have access to some trails, but those trails were reputedly snotty, steep, rocky bastards!

Thanks for that. BTW, I read your post in the "dads and daughters" thread, Nat is 8 and will be on her KTM 50, does your girl ride?

Yep, both kids do. My son is 23 and has recently bought a 950 Adventure and my daughter is now 20 and bought her brother's old DR. Been a long time since they were bashing around on an old Peewee! Between them and the missus, I've generally got someone to ride with any time I've got a spare day.

Taking the kids out there tomorrow for a spin. Unfortunately there isn't enough room for three bikes on the tray, so the mighty XL will have to stay in the shed. So we'll see what the place is like, I'll post up some pics and report for anybody who is interested.

Have a good day. Hope there's enough water in the dam for a swim!

Interested to hear what it's like. Would be a good point to meet mates from Brissy for a ride as it's about half way.

Packed last night ready for a quick get away:

We got away at 7am, as young Mr 11yo needed his beauty sleep, Miss Nat (8) was already up and raring to go having slept in half of her riding gear! It was a steady as she goes 1 hour 25 min from Hervey Bay. The last 10km along Glen Echo Road is twisty narrow dirt, no big deal.

Filled in the forms at the gate and got set up:

The kids seemed to have trouble with working out their riding gear!

Well I could have picked a cooler day, but you have to use the window when it appears.

Took to the Flat Track first.

The Kids MX track, which was in "Snake Gully" and had a lot of shady trees, very nice.

What the hell is it with kids, the idea of the bikes is to get them away from computer games, So soon as we stop for smoko, out comes the iPod game thingy.

So we stayed until midday, as it was just too hot. But the idea of the trip was a 'recon' mission, so it was great to have the place to ourselves. GS's description is pretty spot on, however by the looks, the new owners have been busy upgrading facilities.

Here's the 'Donkey Boiler' for heating the showers.

Toilets and showers; green is the ladies loo, blue for the blokes, and to the right are the showers. They are building more showers (in to it as we left).

Very important for your better half, the ladies loo, very clean and well appointed (apparently), Diane gave it a nod of approval.

And finally the office/kiosk/bbq area;

Some places look fantastic on the web/brochure but are crap when you get there. This place is well kept, tidy and looks organized. What happens when there is park full of little snot jockeys is going to be another thing.

I didn't take too much notice of what the kiosk stocks, I always make sure we take enough so we don't have to eat one of the kids.

So next time, we'll look at doing the camping over night thing. I've got to design and build some sort of rack system to fit more bikes on the back of the ute.

There you have it kids

G'day Dave,
The dam had a good amount of water in it, but we didn't have a dip. I should have taken a photo of that, but after packing the gear and getting the kids sorted, the air-con in the ute was a little hard leave!

If you're meeting up with other families, I reckon it would be a good place to meet half way Jono.

Thanks again Dirt Bloke. I used to ride with a heap of mate at Blackduck when I lived in Brissy. Now I'm in Bundy somewhere inbetween would be good. A few of my mates go to Manar fairly regularly.

We went to GE a few years ago, 4 families and kids, had a blast except it rained most of the weekend which made some tracks interesting, have always said we'd go back but just haven't made it, was a good weekend

The XL is easier to chase the kids around on. Anyway it won't fit on the tray with the other bikes, I might have to buy a cheap trailer and convert it...later

Time to get the kids out of bed and get going. There's riding to be done!
