Suggestions for Day Rides out of Redding CA in January...

Hey Everyone,

Looking for suggestions for 4 to 8 hour rides out of Redding CA that can be done in January. I'll be coming from Washington and bringing 2 or 3 bikes and meeting my brother from So Cal for 3 or 4 days of re-introductory riding for him (mid 50's, at least 20 years off bikes). All of the bikes are plated, and not really looking to trail ride, rather gravel and dirt. Would like to stay out of snow yet see good scenery. Looking for it to be a good experience for him, and to get him excited about DS/ADV riding, and get him back on a bike,

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as would any .gpx files you'd care to share!

Regards,

Rey.

January weather

The weather will be the biggest factor for January riding. It could be perfect or snow down to 1500' like they are predicting for later this week.

Yeah, I figured the weather could put a cramp on things, but fortunately, we both set our own schedules at work, so we can push a few days forward or back to ride the better weather. Can go further south, as well, Red Bluff, Corning, Willows, Williams, or further East to Chico or Oroville.

Just need some help in finding the right spot for him.

Me? I'll ride ANYWHERE!!!!

Seems like it's kinda a toss up around that time, snowed last WE from Anderson to Bella Vista 1000' elevation.

Some area southwest of Redding, Igo, Ono area small back roads and stuff. Area north of 36 has forest service roads and some of the back roads on ths east of I-5 tween Redding an Red Bluff are fun, not dirt but small back roads. Tuff time of year up there weather aint real predictable

Thanks RocknTroll,

This is a start! I'm looking more for gravel roads, even if just back roads, just the least amount of paved possible. I'll get on Google Maps and take a look at what you've suggested.

There are back roads from Red Bluff down to Hwy 20 on the west side of I-5 too. (Red Bluff-Stonyford etc.) The roads are usually paved near the cities and gravel-elsewhere.

If it isn't snowed in, the Platina-Ono road is neat too.
