Nobody said I could hit the side of a barn from the inside with the doors closed.

I just said I carried them

People should have the right to bear arms. People should also have the right to feel safe around gun owners. I don't see why having a person display at least a basic level of training before owning a gun is unreasonable.

It seems people are either for owning all types of guns or banning them all. Can't we compromise? Some guns seem exceptionally deadly. Is it a surprise some don't see the need? Restricting some doesn't mean restricting them all.

Where are the bad guys getting their guns? From people who received them legitimately. This I see as the most important problem. People need to take responsibility for their guns. Nowhere in this thread does anyone talk about what they do to keep bad guys from getting their guns. Gun control won't help, banning guns wont help. People who own guns need to be more careful with something that has the potential to be so deadly. To often guns are just laying around for someone to pick up or steal.

I honestly feel that buy-back gun programs are one of the best solutions. It takes a lot of unneeded, unsafe guns off the streets.

Just my thoughts.

Thanks for the input. As this is the Sandbox gun control discussion thread kindly find another venue for your opinion. I do not see how other people are drawn to a sub forum and feel the need to express an opinion when it's been stated in this thread several times already that we'd like to keep this a local discussion.

Now, against my better judgment, I'll speak to your point.

I neither want to be tested nor do I need to pass any sort of test to own a firearm.. As a non-felon it's my right to do so as I please. If you follow that sort of mentality then what say we limit free speech to only those with a degree of no less than four years. Or we could limit the 4th to only those in neighborhoods where the average income is greater than 250k/year. The 5th will only apply to felony cases going forward?
Who do you propose will enforce the "safe and secure" clause you see as the answer? This alone would negate the 4th by the very nature of it's purpose. It would also not stop any sort of criminal ACTIVITY. It would only hold those who lawfully owned the firearm, and were victimized or stolen from, and that firearm used in a crime responsible AFTER THE FACT.

This thread seems to keep going sideways, and I am partly to blame. Mug, I am truly sorry for my part in the derailing, and will only post viable, and relevant information here going forward. I have no delusions that I'll change anyone's mind, but will offer my opinion as an active participant when I feel I have something useful or valid to add to the discussion.

"As this is the Sandbox gun control discussion thread kindly find another venue for your opinion."

So now you are trying to limit my right to free speech? I am a member of this forum. I will post where I want, whenever I want. What I posted was polite and respectful. You live in a civilized county of over 300,000,000 million people, compromise is necessary. People coming up with exaggerated concerns does not help the situation. Why do responses have to be taken to such extremes? Just because a person gives a little doesn't mean others will want it all.

The "safe and secure" clause, as you named it, needs to be the responsibility of the gun owner of course. You are so willing to protect your life, can't you protect your gun?

Easy, Thumper, easy. You were polite, respectful, and presented yr viewpoint in a way that makes discussion possible. For that, props guy. And you're correct that I nor any other FF here owns the Internet.

But i will echo Buzz's assertion that this thread was from get-go a well-stated attempt to have a discussion on this topic amongst folks who have local skin in the game-- folks who live and ride in the same regional orbit and who, out of familiarity with (and quite often respect for) each other, will keep such a discussion civil, because of the very fact that we all share face-time at camps, rides, gatherings, firepits, all.

That is the major difference between this effort and the kind of at-large (ad hominem ) shitstorms you'll find in the ADV basement. Again, see my opening post to this thread: seeing Shitstorm Basement-StyleTM was the reason i started this here in the first place.

I have not a clue how so many non-Sandbox FF's found this regional sub-forum thread. I damn sure didn't solicit posts from outside. To do so would have had the effect of trying for CS&M Lite, which sure as shit wasn't my intent.

Down here we all have to face each other at the next gig, which the outsider posters don't. That gives the outsider poster Internet Warrior AnonymityTM, which we were trying to avoid.

That's what the Basement is for, seen?

I certainly don't to be somewhere I am not wanted. Although I thought this forum was open. Thank you for setting me straight. I am surprised that you don't know that whenever there is a new post it shows up under... New Posts. That's why so many see this thread. Thank you for making me feel so unwelcome, something I didn't realize could happen on ADVrider. You live and learn.

My neighbor, his boy and myself went hog hunting last Saturday. His boy bagged this 183 lb hog with an SKS ASSAULT RIFLE....I posted this to negate the assinine statement that "nobody hunts with assault rifles"

Not trying to limit anything Brother. Simply making yet another attempt to keep to the original theme of this thread. If you feel that your input on a 2A discussion is warranted there are a myriad of options in the basement. For those of us using this thread here in the Sandbox it's simply an easier means than texting- see. While I don't feel like I blew my cool I do feel like this thread has been the victim of trespass from outsiders that, as Mug said so well, "have no skin in this game" Had you spent a little time to read the entire thread you'd have easily realized this, and been happy to read what's here without comment. There are other threads like this on ADV. I have read, but not posted.
Your free speech isn't being pushed down on the playground, and I'm not saying I'll take my ball and go home. What I'm saying is that by geography, and your absence at the 60 odd campouts I've attended with the other posters on this thread- you simply were not tapped on the shoulder to play this time. Want to be part of all this? Come on down and join in. The beer is on me.

Nobody ever said you were not welcome here TS. Feel free. Join in. There are currently hundreds of topics in this sub forum. Only this one has ever been asked to be kept local. Please respect that.

Flip through THIS one and find out why the Sandbox is the Sandbox, and why thus far this thread has prospered while so many in CS&M have slid into a pile of dung.

Florida Sport Shooters Assn. is a good bunch, and a CMP recognized org. Not all that high tech, but I just renewed my membership. $100 for 6 years

Second Amendment Foundation no stupid costly mass mailing asking you to renew 6 months into you membership or VP's in a $5,000 suit and $1,000 shoes

I finally threw some money to Dudley at NAGR but they seem to be as wasteful with their funds as the NRA to me.

To follow that logic we need to have training to own a baseball bat as more people are murdered with bats than guns.

How about being licensed as a responsible pool owner, more kids die in pools than by firearms.

Owning bats and pools are not a constitutionally protected right.

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
