We just got back from there on Monday. We had a small amount of snow on us around Thompson Springs on Friday. We had partly cloudy on Saturday and sunny on Sunday in the Chimney Rock area. Temps were around 35 for the high. We had premo conditons for traction and no dust or mud. I doubt you get into Twin Knolls area and 5MOH. You'll have snow at that elevation and the storm yesterday and today will have made it worse. Good Luck.

Just one flaw to your thought. Snow on top of slick rock does not work very well. Since 90% of 5MOH is Slick Rock, no good.

Ayup. Also keep in mind that the roads in the Swell are unimproved. The 10 mile drive off the Interstate would be slip'n and slid'n. I've had to chain up my van to get out of there when it started raining in the middle of the night.

I would suggest sticking around Moab. Elevation is lower, and there is more sand and rock than in the Swell.

Dozer - Sounds like fun. I wanted to head out there with Matt but bikey was still in pieces. Did you guys actually hit 5MoH this time? Looks like that was the last chance for this year.

So mylsmkj - you know of good trails in AZ?

Btw, what the hell is a "mylsmkj" anyway?

Moab looks pretty white right now.

Ummmmm......

I think I'm going to stick to my heated garage for the foreseable future. We were very fortunate to still be riding our high trails in December. As a result, I've got a big backlog of bike work. The 300 is going on the bench for a new top end as soon as the 990 is put back together.

However..... I heard from reliable sources that the Northern plains got very little snow. If it warms into the 40's, I would be up for some exploring in the Grasslands next week. Maybe even a visit to the OHV area.

Maybe.. is it all that flat?

My 300 is just about back together from a million little repairs and I've been off the bike for nearly 3 weeks.. I must go break something on it soon.. 50 degree forecast for Boulder should = much fun mud at LHC. Just the ticket.

When I started on here I was still a smokejumper out of McCall, Id. the airport code is MYL smkj is short for smokejumper, the big thing is I figured it was very anonymous.
That looks yummy. The Goog says 13 hours from my house. Hmm. Which days you guys going out. Have room for a trail tagalong if I meet you there?

Now that your name makes sense I may actually be able to spell it.

Leaving in the next couple of days and staying about a week, no solid plans yet. Would be sweet if you could make it. Looks like it'll be 60's down there.
