My KLR & I go South

Ever since I got back from my trip to Baja Mexico I have been thinking about returning again most
everyday. I just enjoyed riding there so much with beautiful sunshine, scenery, culture and the people.
So in a few days on Dec 22, Iíll be on my way again from Vancouver,BC. Last year I left Dec 24th,
it was cold, raining and will be the same again when I leave Saturday. It just snowed here this
morning but has turned to rain and hopefully be washed away when I leave. I donít care about the
weather.......I'm leaving for Mexico regardless of the weather. It will get warmer everyday as I get
closer to the border.

My plan is to take the I5 to Tecate and cross there. Ride Baja to La Paz and catch the Ferry to Mazatlan.
From there Iíll make my way to Cozumel to meet a friend. Explore the Yucatan, Belize and hopefully
meet up with some riders I know who are going to South America and ride with them for a few days.

I have packed my 2 cameras and 2 GoPros. I very much enjoy taking pictures and video but Iím still learning
and will try and share as much as I can with you all. Iím riding solo on my KLR 650 and itís nice to know
some of you will be following along with me.

From my last trip to Baja.

As a fellow Canadian KLRista planning a South American adventure in <2 years' time, I'm definitely in for this one. Excited for your photos, videos, thoughts, and route. Enjoy the riding!

Thanks very much and I can hardly wait to get on the road riding. Some friends of mine will be leaving for South America next weekend and I'll get you the link for their Ride Report once they start one.

That would be great, thanks! You're lucky, on the coast, that you can just get up and ride on December 22nd without worrying too much. It's funny, because last year I had no problem riding all winter as we didn't have too much snow. Temperature doesn't really bother me; it was usually -20 when I'd head to school in the morning. This year, however, we are having a much more normal year, and no one in their right minds would be riding. Good thing I'm not in my "right mind"

Anyway, hopefully that bit of snow clears for you and you have a good departure!

Funny how homeless and KLR650 seem to go together so well....
All I can say is go for it and be sure to keep us posted, as far as I am concerned running solo makes everything more adventurous.
Posting alone from my shanty as my KLR freezes out there in the sleet.

Thanks Donn, Gas Guy, AteamNM and GaryM.

Donn is the friend I was talking about who is riding to South America. He has a Blog going so I hope everyone who interested checks it out and follows along. I wish I was going with them but that will be my next trip. Looking forward to this trip though

Mexico Rocks

Hi Mark. My name is Tad Haas and I too am a friend of Donn Harvey's. He just turned me onto your blog/posts. My partner Gaila and I have been traveling in Mexico for the past month. What an awesome place. We are down on the East Coast now and heading into Belize. Enjoy your Baja time and hope the weather is not too bad heading south.

BTW, Donn turned us onto your friends place in Belize so we are going to be checking it out http://www.theplacencia.com/placencia-hotel. Probably too rich for our long term travel budgets, but we will see. Donn said you were coming to Belize also. When do you arrive?

Cheers for now. Tad

Merry Christmas Mark;
Have you cleared the cold and rainy PNW yet?
Southbound this time of the year is the ticket for great riding weather.

Have a safe trip.

Sounds like a good read to follow as the rainy, dreary weeks are coming up. Ride safe and report as often as you can.
