Landed in Bogota safely. I was about to fill out the customs declaration form which they handed out on the plane. On the back of it it says, Travellers may not bring goods such as tires, automotive spare parts and so on. In order to bring my rear tire I sacrificed so many other things and then this!!! Darn!! Will they confiscate my tire now after all that? So I declared in the form that I did have a tire and handed it to the customs officer. “Where are you heading?” he asked me. I waved my red swiss passport na d told him about my adventure very briefly. He wanted to know how much my bike costs and then let me go with “welcome to Colombia!”

Killing time at the Bogota airport after landing at 1 a.m. Waiting till daylight so I can see Bruce again. I feel to be the odd one here with my adventure hat & unurben looks. Colombians are very fashionable people but they don't seem to mind my fashion. Just a few minutes ago a very pretty girl sat on the bench right in front facing me even though there were dozens of rows of empty seats available or even she could have turned her back to me whilst sitting on the same bench. A sign that says my looks isn't a threatening one. In Europe this is not likely to happen no matter how innocent I may look. The feeling of mistrust or perhaps the apathy towards openness is unpleasantly high.
This is what I love about travelling. I love to make these subtle observations & compare things with the world that I am used to & learn a thing or two which could bring people closer together.

Shock of the day! After spending more than 50hrs travelling without a rest and after a long wait in the airport till the day break, I am reunited with Bruce! I walked for a couple of kilometers looking for a place to charge up the battery and then when I tried to start the Bike, the engine cranked but it did not fire. There were more than one thing wrong. First thing was the ignition coil. Since I didn’t get a response from the BMW to my request for sponsoring some parts, I didn’t feel that I should be helping a company to sell me expensive parts. The money is an issue anyways. So I walked to the local motorcycle repair shop and bought a Honda V-Strom used ignition coil, modified it and made it to deliver the sparks I needed. But then the next thing! The pick up sensor seem to be faulty too! Wow, this is getting exciting! I am about to make Bruce a bike of the world. Suzuki, Ford, Hyundai and boat parts had already been modified and fitted on Bruce, now I get to find more brand names to add to the list. I love life!!!

Getting stranded in a big city with a broken bike is one of the worse things that can happen to a traveller. Especially when you are travelling on a tight budget. But then again I don’t seem to run out of angels who take care of me. Juliette is one of them. Having failed to find parts for the bike in Bogota meant that I had to wait till I got the things delivered from elsewhere. There were more problems than just the parts. I also had to move the bike from the place I had stored it which meant finding transport and a new place that is safe enough to park the bike.
Juliette is one of those angels I met randomly. She wasn’t hesitant in inviting me to her house and take care of me and do everything possible to help me get back on the road. Language wise we are struggling to understand each other. But google translate and hands and feet seem to work just fine.

Most of the time when I travel, I encounter empty roads, open landscape, and lonely hilltops. It’s always a tantalizing thing to imagine what lies ahead as the road disappears into the horizon with its twists and turns over the rolling hills. So I enjoy the road and whatever it has to offer. But it’s the people that you meet make travelling worthwhile. Unexpected encounters, their generosity, incredible stories and their struggles and elation are the things that make me take those empty roads into the unknown. After a hard day’s ride, there is nothing like meeting a man and to see him smile!

Ladies and gentlemen, BRUCE IS ALIVE!!!!!! After ordering parts from US & knowing that it's still long way away from me, I decided to comb the second-hand car part zone for one more time. I managed to buy Audi parts from a broken car and removed the electronics & modified it & put on Bruce. He is a happy chappy once again & it seems my south American tour is on!!
Yabadabadoooooooo!!!!
