Which is New Zealand's South Island best motorcycling ride?
Which is the best ride in New Zealand's South Island? SH6 down the West Coast past the Glaciers or SH 94 the Te Anau to Milford Sound Road, or even the SH73 the Arthurs Pass road linking Greymouth with Christchurch?

It's a hard call but out of those I'd pick Hwy 6. The west coast on a good day is hard to beat.
Like Pete says though, some of the best stuff is gravel. Some of my most memorable days riding in the South Is have been a mix of tar & gravel, eg over Haast Pass, then the Crown Range, then a burn up the 4x4 track to Macetown to cap it off. Adv bikes rock ![]() Cheers Clint

Have to agree with you as SH 6 is pretty near unbeatable from start to finish -Top of the South Island to Southland. |

From my brief experience, the overwhelming majority of the south isle. But most twisty fun is Queen Charlotte, Crown Range just outside of Arrow Junction, Portobello Road outside of Dunedin, 6 from Punakaiki to Murchison, 6 from Hokitika to Makarora. And Milford of course. Don't forget to stop for brief hikes.
I can't wait to go back! |

I think your tongue-in-cheek humour was a bit subtle for some of your fellow adventurers that should be trying to stay off sealed roads.
