Pissed hit and run on my GS

So...I came out today to move my bike and found this:

The right vario mount snapped.

The steering lock is now *really* loose too, like 6 inches of play in the bars when locked. When I look up under the bar and move them I can see the lock pin is loose now.

Any idea how much a replacement right side Vario mount is for a 2008 1200gs? Anybody selling one cheap?

For the steering lock, is that even replaceable or would I have ro replace the entire key assembly?

At least they picked it up and run away without leaving a note. Filthy animals

You can usually get a new set of take-off mounts in the flee market section for under $100, often under $50. The steering stop sounds odd. Can you get a photo of it?

Bummer about the that did this. Make sure you check carefully for other damage. You might need to get insurance involved.

Honestly there's almost no other damage (thankfully).

The valve cover guard did it's job and isn't bent far out of shape so it's still usable. There's a little dent in the case and a little scratch on the hand guard but neither are anything I'm worried about. The pegs, brake lever, handlebar end, mirror, etc all look fine to me. Anything I should specifically look at?

The steering lock pin wiggles now. When you turn the bars there's no longer a feeling of hitting the stop, it's more of a mushy feeling at the end of travel. It's hard to get pics but below you can see the pin has a lot of play in it.

Straight:

Bent:

I don't *have* to replace the steering lock as it still works for the most part, it just doesn't feel good.

I'm thinking I might need one of these:

I found the vario mount on beemerboneyard for $50 but they're out of stock at the moment

I'm not sure I would bother with replacing the lock. I never use it, and it has minimal value anyhow.

E-mail or call Mike at BBY as his site is not usually 100% up to date. Check the Flee Market here too, as they come on sale all the time.

Have you CALLED BBY?
Many times their website shows items as "SOLD"...but they have the item.

Give Mike a call to confirm availability of the mounts:
Customer Service: (973) 775-3495

If NOT available...you should be able to find them here in PARTS for about $50 for the PAIR.
There's a set here:
http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=882554 albeit not $50...

There should be a law that anyone who has a license to drive take a test to determine IQ.

Not everyone should have a driver's license.

Prime example of someone with no character, ethics, or dignity.

But,
In 2007, 2 months after I got my new truck, I was eating at a fast food place. When I came out there was a high school kid standing by my truck, he had hit the right side lower quarter panel behind the rear wheel and stayed around to tell me.

I couldn't get angry because he showed character in taking responsibility for his mistake.
I told his parents that they should be proud that their son was an honest person that they should be proud of.

Sure it cost them to fix it, but what is your character and reputation worth?

The person who hit the OP's bike sold his character for $50.

The person who hits and runs should have there licence revoked, even if there is nobody injured.
