rear wheel not spinning freely
I was checking on the bike this evening for a ride tommorrow. When I went to spin the rear wheel it is taking a alot of force to spin. The best way I can describe it is a compression stroke when I spin the wheel. It is real hard to turn for a few degrees then it is easier to turn for a few degrees. There is no play side to side. The brake pads and rotor looks good and not warped.. Any ideas ?

U-joint. Mine was just like that. It would bind then loosen up then bind again every rotation.
Mine was the front u-joint @ 42,000 miles. |

Is it also making a "Clunk-clunk, clunk-clunk" noise? That's probably a u-joint on the driveshaft. How many miles on the bike?

What others have said, you have a bad u joint, most likely the front. Definitely do not ride the bike until it's repaired. How many miles? Sure would like to see the NHSTA get involved and force a recall.

I have 37K on the bike. I do hear some clunking. Thanks for the input.

What's the recall for? There's no safety issue and the bike has 37k miles, Sounds like normal wear and tear to me. Replace it and keep riding!

I have a hangover, so maybe we could stay on topic? This isn't a recall thread. It's about finding out what is wrong with this guys drivetrain. I would like to know before my 09 blows up in BFE.

If the bike is on the center stand..it will SLIGHTLY u- joint bind anyway..you can feel two SLIGHTLY stiffer spots as you rotate the wheel thru...
That being said, if it feels like it' s literally froze up in two spots, your front u- joint is toast. If you roll the bike across the floor, you'll here a distinct "click" as the u- joint rotates.. Yeah...it sucks, at 37k though, dealer should be able to get warrantied...mine did at 40k..

No, not kidding. I think the symptoms of imminent failure will be evident way before it breaks. This should give you more than ample time to get it replaced or repaired. Sorry OP for your current problems!
