Correcto. The part between WPs 3 and 4 is neutralized (about 200kms in length)

As Brodovich says, the actual timed section of the special today is only in the region of 128kms - however, this is split with a long neautralised section in the middle (making it 346 in total), so while there may not be a lot of time available to make up positions overall, there is still the issue of making sure the machine lasts the complete stage to the very last sector...

The last timed sector is purportedly just 17kms long, and likely to be little more than a spectator stage - which of course could also feature some nasty 'obstacles' that make for good photos, but conversely could cause problems right at the wire... It's not over until km346 has passed!

That said, I imagine any hard charging is going to be done in the first half?

I'm not so sure about that.





....mid packers have nothing to gain and all to lose so for the majority I'd say that's correct but....

With it still tight at the top 4.....and the 'new' race for 3rd....those guys don't have the luxury to NOT charge hard IMHO

125 bikes listed as starting today. Is this the lowest attrition rate we've seen yet in a Dakar? I seem to remember figures of roughly a hundred in other years...

I think Jenny nailed it. the 2nd half is just 17kms... not even a prologue.

Positions 7 - 11 also covered by only ten minutes, those guys will all push as well I think
