I Know its 205 from the pre Dakar thread but while we are waiting for the quads to arrive, have a look at Cyril and Ruben falling their asses off in my back yard.

bit of info popping up on the dakar.com live timing (under "live comments"):

08:30 : It's all a question of numbers for Yamir Ortiz
Yamir Ortiz hasn't even started his first Dakar and he's already busy working on his motorcycle. Nothing serious, he just had to add the safety beacon which was missing at the technical scrutineering. The rider from Chuquicamata, a mining region in northern Chile, found the perfect solution. A few strategically drilled holes in the front of the fairingBut the red cord he put on race number 165 to attach the emergency flare wasn't really to the taste of the race officials! No problem, Yamir also had a solution for that: sticking another race number on top of the first! Now, the Honda Yamir and his father prepared together is ready and he's psyched up to ride the Dakar unassisted. His baptism of fire awaits!

F5 jury says two thumbs down. He says Pavey feels good but we know he has food poisoning and probably feels like "crap"

yeah he's a hack, but in all fairness I think that was written yesterday and only published today. Oh, what's the point, eh?

The coefficient of the prologue, a snail accelerator

Between Pisco and Lima, the first stage of the Dakar 2013 competitors to the train. After the middle of the liaison of 250 km, a "prologue" exhibition of 13 km in the sand where the favorites do not necessarily go for the win ...

*
The only timed the day not scare anyone. Mini-dunes for jaywalkers, not for big fighters. However, some might be tempted to do a bit of treading water, just to avoid going on the first Sunday and do the trace. It has already been seen in other rally-raids and ASO has everything to advance the snails. In its rules, there is a coefficient for this step. He is 5 for motorcycles and 3 cars / trucks. Warning sealed the math, you must exit the calculators.
Case study
For simplicity, consider the example of a motorcycle that will take ten minutes to cover the distance of 13 kilometers. The coefficient is five, his time will be 50 minutes (5 x 10 minutes). The measure is effective because the competitor will be tempted to lose a bit of his time will delay multiplied by five. If one wanted to ask Despres a minute to leave opponents open tomorrow, actually lose five minutes. Immediate sanction but will be limited in the case of real concern on the prologue. The maximum time has been set at 1:10 to avoid losing the Dakar in the first stage.

Lyndon explained, in his RR call in, that at the riders meeting they were told bikes X5 and cars and trucks X3.

That being said, it's the Dakar...they don't expect us to understand

Last year someone was saying they referred to the quads as "retard chariots"

Looks like the Race2Recovery guys are up for the podium after about 12 other cars.
