Yup, got up this morning and realized that the f5irehose overflow that had accumulated during the night wasn't too bad!

Regarding the armour some use, it's (as previously mentioned) the Leatt Adventure vest and I've just recently ordered one myself and at last I found an outlet that sells them at a reasonable price (atleast it's the lowest price I've yet to find for us Europeans)

looks like that Leatt Adventure Body Protector is $229 just about everywhere in the US.

in the UK, you might consider contacting one of Pyndon's sponsors, Adventure-Spec.com, and see if they can order it for you? tell them Pyndon sent you!

Can't lay my hands on the detail immediately (got to go to work) but Pyn had some very favourable comments about the armour/jacket solution that Klim worked out for him

Malle Moto

Getting a Malle Moto list roughed out... Please let me know if I'm missing anybody obvious or included somebody who shouldn't be there.

I think I am missing lots of them although I'm searching "malle moto", "trunk bike" etc on www.dakar.com. Many of the rider entries aren't translated or they don't necessarily mention "Malle Moto" in the bio.

#48 Hans-jos Leifhebber
#67 Marcel Snijders
#69 Hugo Payen <-- Need to confirm if he's Malle Moto
#93 Henno Van Bergeijk <-- Stage 3 Withdrawal
#107 Craig Bounds
#112 Yannic Guyomarch <-- Stage 3 Withdrawal
#122 Eric Palante (50th birthday in Santiago!)
#127 Nicolas Boyer (XR 400!)
#132 Richard De Groot
#143 Esteban Smith
#147 Robert Van Pelt (19 years old!)
#175 Boldbaatar Damdinkhorloo <-- Stage 6 Withdrawal (I think he was Malle Moto)

Riding gear

Some wear separate body armour but most wear just a tee shirt underneath with a "life support" jacket - ie - everything is in the jacket - body armor, camel-back, tools, cash, time card etc etc. This is certainly the case for Jonah & Dave ( Schwarz ) in '09 and Jake Smith ( GHR ) in '11, as I was on their respective support teams and helped them "gear up" in the mornings.

I've never been keen on this "everything in the jacket" idea, but I tried it in this years Safari ( a KLIM jacket ) and gotta say, I'm a convert. The jacket is ( obviously ) very heavy, but once you have it on, it's not so noticeable. My only complaint is that the KLIM drink bladder doesn't seal 100%, or maybe i wasn't doing it right ?

Morning all, high altitude and high spirits for today's special... It's tracks once again so navigation will be simpler and overtaking more difficult, can Chaleco avoid loosing once again a lot of time? I believe he will loose at least the 4mins to CD and then some more. Those placed further back will be at a disadvantage in my opinion so I predict that by the end of the day CD will be leading the overall...
