Couldn't have been swopped the previous day as Dabrowski would have picked up a second and a 45 min penalty for a second engine change - he only has a 15 minuter ( new word)

good! After all Mauro Sant is the man that created the bike Manuel is using and a TM unfortunately they have one only rider in the race, as Fesani retired very early. It Looks at TM they have possibly the same HRC problem, fuel pump overheats and so vapor locks. They are trying to move it on a different place, where can breathe a little bit more...

Well said, Cyril!

I thought I'd like the rest day, but I hated it. Don't mind time off the bike, but wondering what's coming next is less fun than finding out...

The rumor mill that day also stated that the 15 min. penalty was on the books for Dabrowski ( for the day before) and then mysteriously disappeared after it was his motor to be used in the trade.

Anyone else think that Factory KTM are so fucking ninja that they force a B team rider to install a new engine before the marathon stage so that if one of their top guys needs to swap he gets an almost new one?

Wow I'm impressed

No idea on the mysterious penalty vanishing though, I missed that...

88 degrees right now in Tucuman on rest day. 12 degrees here at home. If hubby comes home saying how hard he "worked".....might not go over so well with me!

Is that an external or an internal fuel pump ?

Have been catching up all day being away yesterday, seems that I have missed something.
Really loving the great pictures and stories here, and sometimes a conspiracy theory

I hope the riders are getting enough rest for tomorrows stage, as it will be a long one if it isn't shortened

First there is 176km connection, follow by refuel and start of special @ 07:40 local

WP1 probably together with CP1 @ 39km
WP2 @ 61km
WP3 @ 95km
CP2 @ 121km
WP4 together with CP2 or @ 131km
WP5 @ 172km
WP6 start neutralisation and refuel @ 226km
Refuel @ 348km
WP7 and end neutralisation @ 353km
WP8 @ 377km
WP9 @ 404km
WP10 @ 430km
WP11 @ 461km
WP12 @ 487km

It was said all in good fun and not to be taken seriously at all.

But to add to the joke; Cyril stated that he knew the motor and knew it would make the race distance.

No no you misunderstood my post as sarcastic - I genuinely wonder if the factory boys had it all planned out. It's a racing tactic which I would have never thought of or heard of before, yet it makes perfect sense.

I think they did not do it this year. They were caught out as well. It sounds like a plan from 2014 onwards though

Well, I have to say, I've seen an ASO first. Frank Verhoestraete, topic of much discussion a few pages back was listed on the withdrawal list as an "explusion" but has been taken off the list. If there was one surety in the Dakar it was if a rider made the withdrawal list, you could take that to the bank. This is the first time I've ever seen a rider re-instated after having been on "the list".
