Barreda "I knew I'd have to try something today. I knew it would be difficult, with many kilometres and hours ahead of me. It was hard to stay focused for so long. In the end, I managed to do so. I had a few scares because the trails in the last part were slippery and the tyres were quite worn out. It was tough to ride safely, but I managed to maintain a strong pace until the finish without making any mistakes. I started a minute late because my motorcycle just wouldn't start. I had to push the envelope and lost yet another minute. Then, I had to stop because of the fairing and lost another minute. All in all, two minutes. The last part was less eventful; I rode without stopping or making any mistakes, and I think the times will end up being more or less the same." Hélder Today was a difficult day, even though it didn't require much navigating. It was long, hard on the tyres and hard on the riders. I did a good job without risking too much, because it was dangerous. So I'm happy. The Dakar's still long, anything can happen. So I'll attack until the end to try and get closer to the podium. |

On paper I didn't think today would be such a game changer......seems like I've been thinking that for the last 3 days. Great race this year, no one running away with it. Each day a new contender, new heart break and new inspirational stories.....Dakar
![]() I've no idea how Luis could pull this off, he's a very long way from the finish, its dark, fuel will become an issue.....that being said if anyone can do it, he can ![]() GO!!!!! L U I S

Casteau:
![]() I was roughly at km 100 and riding calmly, without pushing it too hard. I was hot on the heels of Pedro Bianchi when a cow popped out of a turn. I hit it with the handlebar and fell hard on my shoulder. My fuel tank got a hole in it, so I quite obviously ran out of petrol. Vincent Guindani gave me some and I managed to finish the first part. The doctors strapped my shoulder so I could start the second special, but my motorcycle stopped 30 km from the finish. I think it was a sign: I had to stop. It wasn't worth it. I wanted to fight at the front. I already had my fair share of bad luck in 2011 and 2012. I'm going back home tomorrow. It's a hard blow. One day you're crying of joy and the next you're crying of pain and sadness. |
