Tear it down to see what failed, in case he has to warn his riders about a likely weak spot.

Anyone know if they gave Marek a fresh one?

I somewhere read that it was only the shift fork and if they know what it was, they have fixed it for sure. BTW I think the enginges are the same on the bottom end. The magic happens at the top end and in many hours on the dyno. Orlen is a big team so I'm quite sure they get the same engines mechanically.

No way Jose. Ktm factory riders engines will do 10 km/h more top speed

Somebody (apparently Jaroslav Jindra looking at the youtube name) did a great job on this video. It's mostly really good footage of the motorcycle riders:

so what do we know now? Huskys are really fast but unfortunatelly every rider had a bad day with mechanicals in the past so they are out of the overall. I like the performance of the Huskys so far ... Maybe I get one of those TE449 this year ...

Makes sense.

But why did this one fail? That would be the burning question for a team manager.

I was responsible for fleet maintenance for a couple of years. It was evident that when one truck failed for a component, all in that series would usually follow. Rarely was it a one off.

That's why the question.

A question:

some inmates have been at the dakar, riding it or mechanics. do the top teams carry out any tests on the engine during the rally to estimate how long its going to last? like a quick test for oil? because, when the rider is on the track and he starts hearing things in the engine, it might be to late already. would be good to know before that.

cheers

That's all in the top end: camshaft, cylinder, intake etc. and many hours of application on the dynos ... ;-)

Rider feedback, probably the most useful given time restraints.
Top teams tear into top ends for inspection

You wanna know what's really cool?

Every time I click into Mischa's tracker, I see Lyndon's name amongst those big names in rally. Like PAU, he's only a minute behind him on the piste.

I think it's pretty damn neat.
