Unfortunately no pics of the first ride of the year from me. I hope this isn't how the rest of the year is going to go. What started out this morning as a crisp short shakedown cruise on one of our vintage CT90 Hondas turned into another installment in the Vintage Honda Ride and Push program. After a few laps up and down the driveway I decided to go check out the frost on the other side of the valley below our house. The frost was interesting, like small white ferns hanging off everything. Things were going quite well right up until the large cloud of smoke and total flameout. Almost an hour later I made it back to the shop. Wet black gooey plug and a distinct lack of compression. Happy New Year !!!

I went out for a couple of hours today. Couldnt resist with the unusual sunshine and all.

Even though it was only 37 degrees out I rode all over the backroads of Lacey and Olympia on my Road King.

Didnt take any pics...too busy enjoying the ride.

Howdy All,

I posted this over in the Nor-Wet photos thread.

Howdy All,

Went for a New Years day ride with Chris, worked our arses off in the deep snow, had a great time, I am tired, and very wore out, only fell twice, once to the left, once to the right, Chris didn't get a photo so technically it never happened.

The mighty Tdub gets high mark on the mountain on this section of the ride.

Three Eagles gave us quite a show, riding the thermo coming up the side of the ridge.

Mt Rainer, about 130 miles away from where we were riding, this photo was taken zoomed in as close as my cheap camera would go.

Mt. Rainer, is in-between the bikes, no zoom, 130 miles away.

Chris is "lubricating" the gate.

This gate and its story will be shared around the camp fire for years to come.

What a great day, not to cold, very sunny for this time of year, Thanks Chris for inviting my slow old arse to ride with you today.

I would have loved to up in the hills around here, but since the freezing level was so low (it was freezing at my place at 500ft) I knew I would hit ice, then snow before I hit dirt.

So I wandered over to Cycle Gear where they were serving free chili before the Polar Bear Run.

The Ruckus Gang made a showing

Didn't care much for the route, so just rode my own ride.

I would like to hear the story of how and who was able to get the roost mark under the gate

Howdy Tom,

The hill coming down to the gate is quite steep, the roost mark is actually on the up hill side of the gate, its an optical illusion that it looks like its under the gate, I think it was more of a skid mark trying to stop before crashing into the gate.

No riding. :(

I tried to install aux LED lights today. Job one, make the mounts. Job one, fail...LOL

Screw it, I'll just head to Home Depot this week and buy some L brackets. The aluminum plan I had just isn't goign to work out.

So, while I was messing with my bike for a few hours today, I failed to so much as turn the engine over. *shamed*

I was sorely tempted to hit a trail today, but wanted to try to get the lights mounted. I threw in the towel eventually and just went back to the warmth of the fireplace to sort new tools.

Nicely done to the intrepid few who ventured out today. Fascinated with the rear wheel chain on the TW200, too!

Polar Bear Run

Did the Portland Polar Bear Run also...well at least part of it.

Nice turn out for a really "burry" day. Third year in a row I made this ride, it's a lot of fun. Kinda hard to recognize folks though as everybody is so bundled up.

Some nice bikes braved the weather. Not sure this fellow has heated gear!

Some of the bikes had interesting security systems.

Made it up to Lake Merwin, before things went all nasty. The first icy corner I came to there were a couple of bikes that went down. Some more daring guys went on, but me and ice don't mix so I turned around. Met Jungleman and his boss in the crowd here, funny how I missed them at the start.

Ice no bueno

Nice woody made it up to the icy corner also. Not sure if he went on though.

Nice day for a ride, hope others made it out also.

Cool2

Also saw eagles - over the Hood Canal.
Sorry - no pictures - but another inmate and I rode HWY 101 out to Potlatch and back from South Sound Sears. Icy parking lots first thing in the morning, but the roads were okay.
After-ride I swung by the German Diner in Lacey for a cold bier and hot meal...
Happy New Year!
