I ask because I bought the original Jetboil for snow camping and it refused to light at altitude in the snow

Interesting...I got the exact same red coffee press Flash for Christmas and it was difficult to light a couple times. It even said something along the lines of, "now with improved ignitor" on the packaging. I never had to use a lighter, but it took many clicks on a couple occasions. This was only at a couple thousand feet and maybe at 40F.

how far on saline rd is it after you pass hunter?
Get some TKC or 606 and ride back soon!
if you need gear, let me know!
It's still a long ways after Hunter...35-40 more miles. If you look back at my pics, I took one in almost the same spot as you did, overlooking the racetrack right near the Hunter turnoff. Everything after that is the ride into the springs. There was only about 100m of the same sort of icy conditions you encountered, then it was just rough dirt, rocks, and washboards all the way in.

That is actually the Panamint Dunes, not the Racetrack.

Renaud, yes...I know of a few other cabins in that area, if I told you I'd have to kill you.

That was a mule deer track.

Geesh...now that I look at Google Maps I see that. All these years I thought I was looking at the recetrack. Ignorance is bliss!

Is this right, then?

Big Horn Sheep, bobcat, coyote, kit fox, fox, wabbits, pup fish, tortoise, koi, mtn lion...haven't seen one...they eat Big Horn for breakfast so they must be around.

Lot's of critters creeping around the desert if you take the time to notice them.

A VERY good idea. When I rode up there by myself a little over a year ago, I carried a 2-gal Rotopax with me in addition to my 5-gal IMS. I wanted flexibility in case of trouble, or if I wanted to change plans in the middle of a ride. I also carried a 2-gal Rotopax water pack, but that's because I went up in May, when the temps were going to be warmer.

Also, don't attempt Lippencott Pass by yourself if you've not done it before and aren't an expert at riding very rutted, VERY rocky, very narrow, f'd up trails. I'm sure glad I didn't.

Or, did you camp out in the backcountry also? Can't wait to hear and see more pics of your trip.
Where are you in SF, if you need anything let me know before you go

I've been to the Racetrack a couple of times, but both during midday. I think it'd be best to be there either very early or very late, so the lighting is more dramatic. I want to make a point sometime to camp at that dry camp down to the south of it, so I can spend sunrise and sunset up there.

Down the road, people die in the valley of death.

Looks like a fellow moto rider RIP brother...

Down to Titus Canyon, and into historic stovepipe wells.
