Things not to miss....
I am planning a trip from Seattle to Austin some time in the late summer and early fall.
I will be shipping my bike from Texas, the other dude is coming back from a rotation in Afghanistan, picking up a bike in Seattle and riding home. Both of us are long time riders but this is our first "really big trip". I know the Texas and Southwest area pretty well, but not the northwest. What is good to see?

Go north out of Seattle to Highway 20 westbound, then drop down 97 along the Columbia and head east, out through the basin, and catch 26 just south of I90. That'll get you to Idaho.

TX, need more info: 2 track dirt ok or is this all pavement ride? Camp or no camping?
Flaming Gorge area is a beaut. Also, million dollar hwy, Durango/Silverton and over the top north of there. Route in a trip to the top of the Sandias after Taos area rides, then cut east to Austin.

Most of the route will be highway. The plan is not to get home as fast as possible, but we will not have a great deal of time for side trips. Thanks for the suggestions.

A friend of mine has a cabin on the coast right at the mouth of the Queets River so I got to spend a lot of time there growing up. It is one of the most amazing places in the world. |

Crater Lake although it may be too far South for the best route to TX.
