Yeah, that's kinda why I posted the pics. I figured someone would call BS on it and actually, someone did. However I do feel guilty 'cause the guy that delivered it got all worried and that was not my intention.

Normally I don't do this 'cause I'm always worried about people getting pissed off but I thought I'd do it when the cops were there.

Mind you, it's a small town and I know them and like they said, if we handcuff you we've got to take you to the jail so I opted out

Besides, I didn't want to leave it here too long either without fessin' up

Funny part is that I told Danny that I had shit for luck and he thought I was kidding.

Guys, I just took possession of a used Vee last night and I'm having problems.

Last night i took it out for a spin and all was great.

Today, I couldn't start it. Like it wasn't getting enough juice.

I TOOK the keys OUT when I left it last night.

Today I turned the key, lights came on and it wouldn't crank and was acting like the battery was drained.

Finally got someone to help me push it and it fired up.
Turned around to go back to my garage and the lights went out.
I thought maybe there wasn't enough charge so I let it sit and after a few
mins with the engine on, lights came on.

So, I took off to the next town to get something to eat and thinking the battery will charge.

I did by the way turn it off at my house and it fired up on battery.

Anyway, I went to get a battery tender and while at the store, I accidentally turned it off
(in gear and side stand down) so they had to jump it at the store.

It was hesitating and wouldn't start for a few seconds and then it fired up.

LIghts were on.

They didn't have the tender there so I went to advanced auto and don't remember why
but I think I turned it off there.

Anyway, they jumped it again but had to get a big car battery as their small jump starter wouldn't do it.

Initially when you pressed the starter button, it would just click like a car does when the battery is dead.

He tested it on their battery tester thingie and it indicated it was good.

Well, I bought a tender and took off home. Stopped somewhere to eat 'cause I was hungry
as hell and kept the bike running.

As I was on my way out, the lights turned off and I thought the engine had stopped but when I went
outside, the engine was still running but no lights.

So, I didn't have much choice but limped home with hazard lights on only doing 20 miles per hour or so.

Lights didn't come on again.

When I came home i tested the battery with my meter and it shows around 12.5v???

It does have extra stuff on it but the guy I bought it from is pretty adamant that everything turns off
if I take the key out.

I got the owners manual online (is there a good PDF on it somewhere and not just a scanned copy?)
and it said if I leave it in park, it leaves the park lights or something on but the guy I bought it from
said that this didn't apply in the US.

So, anyone have any suggestions?
LIke I said, it has HID lights on.

What position should the key be in when I leave the bike/lock it?

When I take the key out, will it normally cut off ALL the power?

What are the specs on the oem battery and does anyone know what size
it is if I ever need to look for a new battery?

Please keep it simple as I'm a dumba$$

Sounds to me like the first night you turned the key all the way to the left when you cut it off. All the way left leaves the tail-light on. You can still take the keys out in this position! Now the battery is more or less done or just needs a good solid recharge instead of a bump here and there.

Also, jumping a bike with a car is bad juju. Way to many amps in a car system that can do bad things to a bike.

EDIT: I see Dan650 said it didn't apply to US bikes... I know it does to the DL650. Check it out and see...

Apparently it does. A guy from IL in the V strom forum said he's has the parking option with the tail lights on AND, I could have missed THOSE as I was walking away from the bike.

So, no bumping with a car battery? What would you do if not?

You should always carry at least one extra battery with you. Why carry an extra chain, tubes, change of oil and oil filter and not have a spare battery?

Take your typical full size chevy truck. Alternator puts out about 200 amps. The main fuse on a 'strom is 30 amps. So the biggest wire on the 'strom is designed for 30 amps (maybe with a little cushion).

It's just a lot more juice than it was designed for.

I'm not an electrician though...

I hooked up a new battery and it fired right up.

12v lawnmower battery with 230 cranking amps. Sadly, not a word about the Ah's...

Someone in another forum said that if the small jumpstarter at advanced auto didn't do the job, the bike
may not be supplying enough juice to keep the battery charged...?
