Epoxy floor - Page 2

garagejournal.com is the ADVrider of garages, and there is TONS of information there about this subject.

After much consideration, consternation and thought, I went with a concrete coating contractor, and am very glad I did. I've spent a lot of time finishing floors in my life, and decided for the money I'd spend on the best materials, I might as well have it done by someone who's done thousands of floors and guarentees their work.

They used a polyaspartic which, with prep and final coat, was ready for full action in about 24 hours. They sanded, leveled, and sanded before application and I had them "cove" the coating up the wall to seal the corners/seams.

How well does the epoxy hold up over a dirt or gravel floor ?

If pored thick enough if might work. You will need allot of epoxy Jeff I mean allot.

I've done this a few times. You can do it yourself BUT, as others said DO NOT use Home Depot stuff. Ucoatit.com holds up well. If you can afford to have a pro do it that is best.

some painting contractor friends of mine have used this brand with good results. this epoxy stuff is something i need to add to my repertoire....

Pro versus do-it-yourself is partly about the products used... but also about the Pro vs YOU ! I know people that have jumped into the business that I wouldn't allow order my dinner ! NO REFLECTION on Kali at all. I am actually referring to a personal friend doing this for a living... and he is an idiot although fun to hang out with.

I don't care if it's an auto mechanic, lawyer or webmaster. A business card means little to me. If you are gonna pay a pro get lots of references... besides his friends. And find out what he is using and do the Google work on the products too.

Guarantees are ok... A JOB WELL DONE THE 1ST TIME IS PRICELESS !

I have provided temp. power for a few shot blast machines where epoxy was going in.
I assumed that was always the first step.

Spoke to shawn today seems we will move forward working together.

I advised him to go to my supplier and choose his base coat and flake color.
With no pressure from me... Read the labels talk to the reps and ask questions.
He still has an option to do it himself.

But I will be happy to do it if asked.

Here are the steps for anyone that wants to do it.
Anyone should be able to do it in two days allowing for drying time.

Let dry for two days once finished and you can park your cars on it!!

Here are the steps...
Sanding and grinding rough concrete as needed (this is probably the hardest part)
Acid bath to etch concrete - this will allow the epoxy to bond and remove grease and oils
Mask off area to be painted
Primer coat and top coat ( two coats)
Add flakes on wet top coat
Scape off loose flakes and sweep clean
Roll on final clear coat

Buy the good materials... Dont be cheap.
Once you put the cheap stuff on your screwed and it will peel.

After you are done it looks like a million bucks and the money you spent you will be glad you did!!

All things being said, on a final note, I would never have a garage floor again that did not have this treatment. You'll see!

Just an update, not that anyone cares, but here ya go. Ends up one of my non ADV riding buddies best friend does nothing but epoxy floors for a living, funny how things work out

Lots of work left to do on the man cave but im happy so far
