Subsidised Sat phones - Applications Closing

Hi Inmates, I'm not sure how many people are aware that, if you meet some conditions, you can pick up a Satellite Phone with 85% knocked off the price?

The Dept. of Communications has a Satellite Phone Subsidy scheme going that pays 85% of the price of a handset for those that live in areas without mobile reception. 50% subsidy applies to those that will be in areas, not serviced by mobile coverage, for 180 days over the next two years.

The scheme is up for review in June, and with all the cost cutting going on my bet is that it won't be renewed. So good to get in now!

I can process your subsidy and supply equipment on the Iridium, GlobalStar and Thuraya networks.

For more information check out http://www.satphonesales.com.au

At present I have info up about the Thuraya network and handsets (about $145 for the handset, and plans from $15 per month) on the website. This seems to be the best deal for ADV riders at the moment. I can also supply Iridium phones providing full global coverage and Globalstar phones with rates as low as 30c / minute

Happy to answer any questions via PM or off the website.

Stay Upright,

Kevin

For February connection fees are being waived.

So with a full subsidy that'd make a Thuraya sat phone, with GPS, SMS/Email etc. less than $145 connected on a $15 / month plan with no lock in contract.

Even at the 50% subsidy the price is sharp - $474.50 connected!

Cheers,

Kevin

What qualifies as 'no reception'?

I don't get any in my house 90% of the time ... (let alone digital ABC)

No coverage means no coverage with a handheld phone (no external antennas, car kits needed etc.)

You can check your coverage here:-

Satellite Phone Subsidy Scheme Closing Down

Hi folks - a reminder that although the satellite telephone subsidy scheme is closing down on 30.6.14 they are not accepting new applications after 31.3.14 - So that's just one more week to get an application in.

After approval is granted you'd still have 2 months to chose and buy a phone.

BTW we now have the SatSleeve for Android! Turn any Galaxy S3 or S4 (and iPhone 4 / 5) into a satellite voice and data terminal!

Remember if you can declare that you intend to spend at least 180 days in areas without mobile coverage you can get up to 50% off a handset, and up to 85% if you live or work in a place of no mobile coverage.

Thumbs down Deadline for approvals may be sooner rather than later!

Just got a notification from the Dept. of Communications.

The deadline for approvals may be sooner rather than later!

See below...

"As you are aware the Satellite Phone Subsidy Scheme is a capped programme. This means once the allocated funding has been fully expensed the Department is unable to approve any new applications.

If available funding becomes an issue over the next few days please be aware that the Department will be approving new applications on a 1st in 1st served basis to ensure we only approve a subsidy where funds are available.
As previously advised, the closing date for the receipt of new applications is 5:00pm on Monday 31 March 2014 (AEST).

For further information please visit www.communications.gov.au/satphone or call 1800 674 058 (free call from a landline). "

Took both my Globalstar GSP1600 sat phone and Spot 3 tracker up to the APY Lands in far north SA this week Kevin and they worked flawlessly. Particularly pleased with the Sat Phone, it picked up satellites immediately and there's no lag in the conversations. Couldn't be happier mate.

Do they make a magnetic roof antenna for them that doesn't have to be used with a car kit?

Thanks Trev, always good to hear feedback, especially about the GSP1600 audio. It certainly has the best audio and least lag of any satellite phone/network.

There are external antennas available, but compared to the phone at $330 they are quite expensive. Best to give me a call and I'll see what I can arrange for you.
