Its that time again!






This first post will get lots of updates over the next couple of months...

The Basics:

Requirements to join the ride:

1) Lots of riding experience
If you haven't tried a ride like this before, try riding BreckTrek first. If you can COMPLETE BreckTrek, then you're ready to try the MB500.

2) Membership to COHVCO
Last year we gave more options, but COHVCO does much more to keep Colorado trails open than any other group. I still support all the other trail groups, but COHVCO membership is required this year.

3) Trail work
Find a local trail work day, or gather some buddies help fix our trails. Spring is a great time to go our an remove downed trees.

4) An appropriate bike
The most important aspects of you bike are that they need to be Plated and have a Functional Headlight. By “functional headlight” I mean you need to be able to ride unfamiliar technical trails at night.

It is my year to lead this bitch, so, any of the previous years riders, tell me what you liked, what you didn't, what you would add/change, etc.

I have already decided that this year will be a bit more technical than last year. I'm going back to the core idea of "as much tech singletrack as possible".

Do you just have some big boy pants i can borrow? I don't think Ben has made them in my size yet!
Likes-have always liked Agate, Waunita, Quakey, and Rainbow in general..still need to actually complete all of Rainbow, though, right?
I also kind of liked Timberline at night, maybe not so much at the time, but the feeling of completing utterly stupid shit kind of grows on you...
Although i liked Sheep Mountain, i don't know if the sacrifice of that many dirt roads before and after was worth it.
I liked seeing 717 during daylight hours..much easier to ride fast if you can actually see what is up ahead.

Do you have a rough idea of dates? I was hoping to attend the Silverton RMAR again this year, and probably lead a one day massive ride, MB style over to Rico to ride Calico, possibly even Wilson Mesa ST and back via some sweet, yummy goodness...you should consider going!

I think my only real dislikes were losing the oil bolt and busting my ribs on day 3. If I wear these big boy pants, does that keep me from doing stupid shit? I was thinking additional lighting for this year, and I got a Go Pro now, but maybe just some duper big boy pants and life will be all good? Let me know what you think!

Loves-still love Courtney's cooking. Please don't piss her off before this, do what is necessary..I think she put in a request for tequila/margaritas last year, so we can make sure she is accomodated...

I liked doing the northern part of Timberline in the dark in the rain. Maybe we can all do it without headlights for the "Dylan Experience". Also, if you want to go more technical. Star trail needs to be back in.

And here's a more technical option instead of Pearl Pass: everyone seemed to like Deadman's Gulch, so do that again and then go up Waterfall on the other side of Cement Creek, then take Doubletop all the way north until it turns into Crystal Pass and drops back down to Taylor Rd. Then go up Mt Tilton.

Any preference on Dates?

I should be open to just about anything. Looks like it will be a shit year for snow, so I doubt we will have to worry about snow on the trail in July. I would prefer July mostly because we get a bit more daylight, but like I said, Im open to anything.

Personally, mid July (12-14) should work for me, probably, maybe, if not 2nd week of August. I would like to try to schedule around the Silverton Rendezvous, because although i only got to attend a bit last year, it was pretty cool event practically in my backyard, and a great fundraiser. If the rest vote for the last week of July, then i will have to go with that, legacy and all, ha ha!
Last year there were talks of more singletrack possibilities after Tanner/Schultz if we do a more southern route? What does that entail? What would replace the loss of Captain Jacks as a start if we head that way?

That was the most pissed off I'd been all year. My vote is for August sometime since tours start slowing down then...I could possibly swing July though too depending on what we've got happening.

Depends on the route probably. I don't think last year I was ever at risk of running out with my 3.2. Stock tanks needed some mid trail refills though.
