It is all those things. $10/night gets you a tent space and the key to the shower. The bar attached to the campground is dog friendly and the beer is cheap. It ain't the Ritz Carlton, but the location can't be beat.

Looks like I might have to push the trip back until the first week in April.

Is that still a good time? Are crowds likely to be bad?

Will daytime temps be into the 80s by then?

It won't be unusual to see temps in the 90's by April down there. I've done it, and it's not that bad...just not my favorite time. The big plus, depending on rains, could be awesome wildflower and cactus blooming.

I always thought that camp place was called the Boathouse, but I guess they're separate. I noticed last month that they no longer had the white tents set up. It's a motorcycle guy who owns the Boathouse bar there...usually opens about 4 PM. I usually camp at a friends place just across the highway from there. It's nice to be able to walk back to camp after a few of the Starlight's margaritas.

There's often some good music by the locals at the Starlight. You'll only have about a 100 yard walk to your camp.
