81 R65 value. Some guidance please.
A buddy of mine will soon be selling his 81 R65 am I'm trying to help him figure out what it might be worth. I don't know much about the bike but here's what I do know. 9000 miles on the clock, Dual disc (that have just been rebuilt) I believe it has some sort of fairing on it. It's all original ready to ride. In good condition, but not mint.
I've got no idea what the market for airheads is like what's a fair starting price for this bike? $2500? $3000? More? Less? Thanks.

I had a nice low mile 1981 speciman with luggage / cafe fairing that I listed for $1800.00 and couldn't get a bite.
I had started at $2500.00 and kept dropping it but no buyers. I ended up trading it straight across for another bigger bike.I still see them listed for $3500.00 - $2000.00. |

I'd start at $2100, and see what happens. Like everything else, airhead prices have been hit by the economy. There may be ads out there where people are asking higher prices, but you really need to look at eBay or other auction sites to see if you can find out what was really paid for the item.
Good Luck.

1st of all, it is very hard to give a price without at least a few decent photos.
2nd, if you really want to get top dollar, market the bike north of the 49th parallel. You are close enough to the border that lots of people from Canada are willing to come across and arrange the importation themselves. I have done it quite a few times. that all being said, here in BC, a good condition and ridable R65 should sell for between $2-3000 Cdn. And there is a large BMW Airhead following up here. |
