I was hoping to meet Tascha and her family (and our two hooligans were looking forward to it as well). Maybe think about coming up to the Apple Valley Rally the 1st weekend in October.

I plan on getting to the area around 12-1 pm on Friday. I'd like to go straight to Four Corners or other Millican OHV staging area to get a few-hour trail ride in that afternoon. If you'd like to ride some OHV toss a PM my way or post up so we can coordinate. (Four Corners is 15 miles from the Chimney Rock campground via Reservoir Rd.)

Out

Have a plane to catch at Seatac on Sunday evening to Australia, and my friends can't get Friday off, so it doesn't make sense to drive 7 hours just for Saturday. See you FFs some other time.

AJ, look out for those pickup trucks.

Thanks for your phonecall this last year on the day after, Ray.

My plans

Planning to drop in Friday night for happy hour. Will be bringing a load of firewood (you guys will need it, trust me). Wrenching feverishly on the 250 this week in prep for the Desert 100 in two weeks. Plan to dry run her out on the single track at Millican Saturday morning if anyone is interested. Weather looking pretty good for the weekend...warm with a slight chance of a dry rain.

You mean the kind that evaporates BEFORE it hits the ground.
Hopefully we get some that doesn't. Need it bad right now.

Scarlet and I made a recon run up and down Hwy. 27 yesterday to check out the accomadations at Chimney Rock CG. There was nobody camping yet but the place was overun with fisherman due to the good water conditions. As mentioned, the seven day forecast in Central Oregon is looking promising this week so it should be a good weekend to hang out on the Crooked River.

From the clouds of dust that could be seen blowing across the Millican Plateau from West Butte, I would venture a guess to say it's going to be super dusty on the trails at Four Corners this weekend. If your planning to ride the OHV areas you may consider bringing extra air filters or the supplies to service them...

I'm planning to drag our trailer out to CRCG on Thursday and Scarlet's riding out after work. Were looking forward to seeing everyone we met last fall at the Apple Valley Rally!!

Exactly...but you are talking to a still recovering "wet sider". I'll take the dry and dust over the goo and slime any day.

I'm never one to do this, and I've really been looking forward to it but....

out

Long time friend is moving from Seattle to NorCal and he's coming for a visit this weekend on his way thru. Tough decision for me but I gotta stick around the City.

Here's another newbie question, since I've not camped here before. Is there water available, or is a filter enough for river water (after all those cows . . . ), or do y'all just haul water in?

For those riding in, I'll have plenty of water to share.
I will have LOTS of water in two -5 gallon cooler-jugs and two more gallons in smaller dromedary bags.

There is a well at the other end of this CG that is supposedly potable,
but two years ago it was quite ...um....brownish
Likely a shallow well filtering through sand from the Wild & Scenic River.
Good enough to do dishes with,....but I ain't gonna drink it

I rode in the first two years, and packed lots of water with me.
But this year, wifey's coming with, so we're Van-ing it,
and we're packing LOTS of warm gear, and two happy yellow dogs.

I'll bring some extra campchairs, too

I too will have more water than I could know what to do with.

And I'll try to find somewhere in EFR land to load the trailer with whatever firewood I can fit.
