A Day in the San Gabriels

It's warm and dry here in So Cal, so the only thing to do was to take a short ride up into the rugged San Gabriel Mountains, destination, the "Crystal Lake Cafe." From here we headed into the East Fork and up to Glendora Ridge Road to Mt. Baldy.

A fabulous day for a ride…temps in the high 70s, no traffic, and the roads were very clean. Here are a few pics. Enjoy!

CA 39 runs from the beach to high in the San Gabriels. There are a couple of flood control dams right as you enter the canyon. Check out the water level. This is the driest year in So Cal since they started keeping records…

My riding buddies, Dai and Tien.

The headlights on Tien's K16 GT are unmistakeable.

Awesome twisties, sweepers, and blazing straightaways lead you higher and higher.

Your Faithful scribe:

A very fast sweeper, and only fifteen minutes from my house.

The Crystal Lake Cafe is at the top end of CA 39.

I'm partial to the chili. A pound sized serving for $4.50, and it is excellent.

Looking across burned areas in the Sheep Mountain Wilderness area.

On the way to Mt. Baldy…narrow, twisty road for about 13 miles until you drop down into Baldy Village. A very worthy ride.

This dirt road heads into the wilderness area. Like most forest service roads in the Angeles mountains, there is a gate about 400 yards down the path…

Good friends, good weather, and some good food to go along with scuffing the edges off my Heidenaus. What could be better?

Nice stuff AP!

Must be sweet living that close to the good stuff.

As you know, 2 is still open to Wrightwood.

Fine pics. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Sam. Being five minutes from Glendora Mountain Road is nice…now, if I could move that closer to the beach I'd be in heaven. Hope to see you at the next Long Beach BMW group ride.

Cheers,
AP
