WSID Race for Real - anyone here done it recently?

Im taking my VFR800 on the 9th Jan, and Im just wondering if anyone has any stories/experiences to share?

Ive not been drag racing, and have hardly ridden my bike in anger, so I am feeling a bit nervous about it all.

Oh

Now it all makes sense.

Sorry, can't help. I can remember a comedian tyalking about drag racing in the '80's though.... His comments:
"I know it's dangerous, but I love driving really fast with womens clothes on."

Stay safe,
Enjoy.

I'd reckon you'd be asking that question on the wrong forum , maybe ask on a racing forum , not an adventure riders forum .

Great Fun Mate,
I've taken My Car down there for Race for real & I had a blast.
Make sure your helmet has all the Aus standard stickers on it & they also check the Date. If its more than 10 yrs old you will be turned away.
Your bike will have to go through scrutineering, if its your 1st time you will get "FT" written on your bike & you will be allocated a lane number. Once finished, you just line up whenever you want. Some lanes are for the quicker guys but there are guys marshalling that will tell you were to go. From there you are signalled to the burnout pad, then on to the start line to face the Light Tree.
Do yourself a favor & study this pic carefully. Go through the motions in your mind before you turn up as you only get 6 runs to get it right.

I was amazed at the amount of grip you get on the track. it took me a few runs to get the hang of it. Nothing like launching on the street.
I ran high 12's in My car but I would love to take My KTM 690 down for a few passes to see what it does.
Above all, have FUN!!

My first attempt down the 1/4 mile.

Some more good info:

Creedy.

You never know. People may dabble in a bit of racing and a bit of ADVíng.

Guess it never hurts to ask.

no biggy mate, it used to be called "Wicked Wednesday" ... its laid back, no one gives a shit if you miss the tree.. its just about having a bit of fun... twist my arm and i'll drag something down there to go up against you all night..

Its more about you trying to beat your own times, you'll have a good launch and get a good time, then try to beat it next launch and chase yourself all night.. well worth the money, no stress, your only racing yourself..

Sounds like a great way to avoid heavy speeding fines. Well worth the $50.

@Creedy> Thanks for all the info you posted up too! Brilliant! They must have updated their site since I last looked, as none of that was there. Its like they are making it more user friendly/ for the beginners.

Im worried I;ll get a bit antsy on the start and crack a massive bloody wheel stand, fuck it up, and spend the whole night laughing at myself, trying to look inconspicious on a bright yellow bike

@ Moto> Hmmm, well if you are up for a run, I'll not say no!
I do hear that they will only let bikes run bikes, and not let cars and bikes run together....

@Gadget and itsgunnahurt> you guys should meet up! Same sence of humour

Just make it fun for yourself.
Don't get all carried away, it's just good fun. Most of aren't there with notebooks and weather stations in hand, we couldn't give a rats! Traction is normally a LOT more than you are used to, but unless you're in the habit of dumping the clutch at over 5000 to get away from traffic lights, you won't even notice.
Easiest way to get into the swing of it all is just do your usual launch from the lights, only roll it in to the stops. If it lifts, short-shift and then roll it in.

Have fun man, we do.

Well the drag racing is on tonight, and I am going. If anyone in Sydney wants to join in the fun, just come along and say hi.
There are stunt bikes there tonight too, so that should be fun to watch.

I'll be on this..

I think you'd go faster if you replace the missing engines, give it a wash and move that Honda out of it's way!

Oh, btw, have fun!
