Garmin BaseCamp

Hi,
Just bought a Zumo660 and using Garmin BaceCamp on my PC for planning routes.
BaseCamp show the map in a wrong heigth/width ratio. I find this very disturbing. I tried to contact Garmin suppurt, but no answer. Anybody that know of a fix? Thanks

Im guessing your looking at it in the 3D view, as in your viewing it from an angle. On my Mac if you click in the center of the compass at the bottom it goes to top down view. In the View menu you can switch from 2D to 3D

A computer screen shot would help.

In BC under the 'View' tab you can swap the map and data views. Did you try that?

Hi, This is a pic of my community on googlemaps and from BaseCamp. As you see, there is a big difference between them.

I also tried to swap map/data

Try googling "garmin maps wrong aspect ratio".

Can you elaborate on the "difference" that is troubling? Does Basecamp not depict roads, placenames, landmarks, etc. correctly? Squinting at the images, I see some landforms depicted somewhat differently, but it appears all the necessary information is there.

Which one is right compared to a paper topo map? Google Maps probably has a preferred screen resolution, how does your screen fit with that?

People have been bitching about this on the Garmin forums since day one. It's also evident in the newest versions of MapSource. The further North the area, the more distorted the map view. Garmin is very aware of it and has chosen to ignore it. IIRC, it has something to do with the way BaseCamp and the last two or three versions of MapSource render the maps.

This post in the "Windows_BaseCamp" forum may help. Linky. There's some good information in the thread referenced earlier on in the thread as well.

Hi, Its no problem when you make routes i areas with a lot of roads, villages etc. The problem is in remote areas when you are zoomed in, and you need to compare shapes of rivers, lakes etc from a correct map.
Seems I'm not the only one bothered by this, so I hope Garmin will make a fix.

Thanks
