It's the old dilemma isn't it - damage to rad (and to a lesser extent other bits) versus damage to engine mounts. Kept me away from having bars for ages. I now have them though, for better or worse. That's some crap luck you had catching that rock.

Yup, it's more of a gift, really. If there's one thing not to break on a thing,
I'll find a way.

funny thing you mentionned holan pros. washed out yesterday on greasy forest road + grid in a twisty and they did a fantastic job at 60km/h. After that my bike caught fire but that's another story.

So yeah they are worth the $ IMHO

what a pitty, did 1h30 of dirt and didn't even fall, 5 minutes back on tarmac and faceplanted. best thing: a car drove by and didn't stop, a couple of minutes later I rode to a friend of mine to head to a party and the same car was infront of his house. They saw my bike, looked at me and said "oh you are the guy who slided down the road! We thought that we should stop but at the end we continued". Yeah thanks dickhead. Luckily a couple stopped with some water to help me put the fire out.

Obligatory pics:

for those who still believe that the TT handguards are crap: they still hold in place even after the x-time crashing.

oh and I snapped of a mirror but with superglue it seemed like new

Loutre,

Did you bend the handlebar at all? That really annoys me because it is impossible to bend them back again. Now I buy used spares when I see them.

Hey Fted!

Well at first I thought I did but turned out that the rubber inserts of the TT risers make the bars turn on inpact rather than hold them and thus bending them. Finally I understand why you shouldn't tighten them up.

Have you considered Darrryl for spare handlebars?

Cheers,

Tom

Loutre, get a Vespa and stop making us all look bad.

Fted, you never asked about my NEW F8 bars. Too late, I ordered another Scotts for wrecky and will put 800 bars on that 650.

Do orange ones start on fire faster too Loutre???

you look bad enough on your own, you dno't need me for that. The guys working at the waste yard are already signing a petition to get a restraining order against you. From now on you shall be known as Oscar the Grouch :o)

Sure the 8GS catch fire faster (nick named my bike Sparkle ) but don't you worry your pretty little head about it, for such occasions I have moosemeat on speed dial

That is quite a story! Hope you`re alright! (well, the fact that you're able to go to a party imm after that should say enough) Was is a long slide? Gear gone etc.?

I really hate folks riding past an accident doing nothing... My dad experienced the same... Dropped the bike in a corner as well, 5 cars(!) past, all watching what happened but none of them bothered to stop and give a helping hand...

On-topic: Glad to see that the Holans did their job! And they still look strong enough to take another hit. I'll post a pic when installed on my 2013 F8.

How did the bike caught fire by the way?

Crash Bars for 2013 F800GS

Tom, how the f**k did this happen? Sounds like my Czech incident in June, only I didn’t go up in flames... It seems on the R1200 the BMW accessory bars and the soft, cushiony Vario cases are quite effective at mitigating damage (well, until it rolled over onto the windscreen)...

Back to topic, I still find the Adventure Spec bars the best protection for the F800GS...
