After having a blast on my first off-road experience, I bought a 2007 BMW G650X Challenge from HotMamaandMe (Cory). After completing the transaction, I headed back to Mendo and tried the water crossing again... I made it both times...

Dang Andy, I was just getting over missing this and you had to post pics and videos!

We had a blast and glad we were able to convert you to the dirty side! If you get up this direction, the KLR250 is still sitting in the barn waiting and could probably use another good washing! Lots of similar roads around here, I can ride all the way to Idaho (100 miles) and never touch pavement!

Everybody have a good time and be safe, look forward to seeing the pictures and videos!

Tim

I'll be heading to Alaska later this spring and either on the way there or on the way back, I plan to travel through Montana and visiting, if you are up for that... My schedule is extremely flexible and can even stick around for a bit to do some trail riding - you willing to show me around? I'll be on something just a bit larger than a KLR250 though...

Remember this wrong turn?

I just re-read through the entire post, and I think it would be worthwhile to summarize the logistics for us first-timers. Be great if someone could clean this up and add it to the first page.

Dates: Thursday, May 2 to Monday, May 6

Location: Fuller Grove Campground, Mendocino National Forest
[URL="http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/mendocino/recreation/recarea/?recid=25172&actid=29"]

Meals: Dinner provided Friday and Saturday nights. Some snacks available, but breakfast and lunch on your own(?)

Nearest Gas in Upper Lake(?)

Potable water and pit toilets in the campground. No showers.

Small store nearby (Soda Creek Store). Others? Any private marinas or campgrounds open that might have supplies? Restaurants?

Looking forward to it. Trying to figure out how much food to bring.

I remember there being pay showers over at the resort, and they had spotty wifi as well...

Dean posted Continental breakfast, as well.

Nearest Gas in Upper Lake(?)
Soda Creek Store, after Dean confirms with them. Additionally, Hopper Corner in Potter Valley, Covelo, Stonyford and Hwy 20 along Clear Lake.

Potable water and pit toilets in the campground.
Yes.

No showers.
None in camp, but there are coin-op hot showers at the Lake Pillsbury Resort when they run their generator a couple of hours a day, morning and evening. I'll confirm the schedule and post it before the rally. Otherwise, the showers are operation when their dock light is on or you hear the generator upon approach.

Small store nearby (Soda Creek Store). Others?
Same as gas.

Any private marinas or campgrounds open that might have supplies? Restaurants?
Not when we're there during their pre-season.

Looking forward to it. Trying to figure out how much food to bring.
Decide after Dean posts the final menu.

First timer here. Is the campground close enough to the water to bring my kayak for an evening paddle?

Duh. Just looked at the map.

Bring it. There's a boat launch inbetween the group and individual campgrounds, and there's a sweet launch spot into the lagoon at the group campground, too. More toys = more fun.

Can I take it for a spin?

Got TUBES?

Visualize inner tubes tethered to the quickity zip-line above the lagoon: 'hold my beer'-worthy or not?
Bring 'em and let's find out. We're gonna need some strong rope, too.

Kenny, we'll need you officiating and taking embarrassing photographs from the kayak.

Really excited about this trip. James just fixed me up with a Renazco seat for the KLX. Tried it out on Sunday for about 50 miles. Really sweet. Maybe I should have one made for the kayak.
