And it's still raining. Hopefully it will be ready to go for the spring. I guess now there will be more traffic on the "dirt" Skyway until they get it open.

Geotechnical engineering FAIL ...
I hope that the civil engineer responsible for counting on concrete
pilings which were sunk not nearly deep enough into easily eroded soil is now the night manager at a Wendy's, and that his engineering career is behind him. You don't even need to be a civil engineer to take one look at this mess and know it was a questionable idea to put a road on a steep easily eroded dirt embankment. Of course some folks don't realize that engineers make mistakes. For them we have an all expense paid one-way trip on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner ( they might want to bring a gas mask, because when batteries burn the smoke is rather nasty to breathe ). There is a place south of San Francisco called Devil's Slide. The engineers finally grasped the futility of trying to maintain the road which passed through that area and simply closed the road. Some ideas, despite the hubris of men who want to "leave their mark" on the world, are just plain bad ideas. By the way, Mr. Dirtysouth, that is the best sig I've ever seen on any forum, anywhere. . Says it's just west of the Stratton Meadows bridge.
I think the Stratton Meadows bridge is what we go under when we run N River Road. So that means the road is out on the Tellico side of the bridge....FWIW. Man........ that's a loooong way from nowhere.

There is still a way through unless the Forest Service roads get closed too

I guess this means that those willing to ride off the pavement can still get through and everyone else is SOL. Lets hope the forest service roads don't get closed too.

Don't know if this has been posted, but it looks like the Skyway is going to be down for a bit.

Miracles happen, maybe.
From Graham Star Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013 "North Carolina transportation officials plan to open an on-site detour route around a closed section of the Cherohala Skyway in Graham County near the Tennessee state line by Monday."
