Ozark Mountains of Missouri
Thinking about riding in the Ozarks of Missouri. What will you find, and is there any good off roading to be found? Be it gravel mountain roads, or whatever is there. Any information would be great. THANKS!

You'll find just about any riding conditions in the Ozarks....lots of gravel, creek crossings, twisties, and old roads that are still in Garmin that will put you deep in the woods. True offroading is limited though. Most of the locals in any area keep that pretty quiet. If you want a taste of true off roading go to www.ridemtra.com and ride their Dualsport 200 ride. It's really not a dual sport ride as we know it. A lot of trails are opened up for this ride that are usually off limits. A nice light and plated dirt bike is the way to go for that ride.
Here is a link to a ride that is done every year. If you stay south of Hwy 44, the riding is nice. Visit the Bixby General Store where most folks stop when out riding to gas up and eat. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...light=swinging This ride will be May 4th and 5th of this year - look for a new thread real soon here in the Central forum. You should come along for that ride. The Eminence area is also very beautiful. Pick some roads on your GPS and ride. You won't be disappointed. It is very fun to ride some old gravel roads mixed in with some twistie blacktop.

pavement ends, YEAH!

I spent about a week and 1/2 (not nearly long enough) roaming the Missouri Ozarks and camping at Corps of Engineer sites and a few nights in the Ozarks Nat'l Riverway campgrounds. The riding and scenery is fantastic!!! I road paved and gravel roads primarily and had a blast. I will return for more!!
Let me know when we're leaving..............

We went through there on the TAT and I enjoyed every road we were on. A trip to the Ozarks is on my list.

We have the TAT maps, and have discussed riding part of it through there, and then doing a little exploring of the area. Thanks for the help.

I agree with all the post's. Plus if you get on the FR # roads you can sometimes find some pretty challenging roads / trails. And of course there is Chadwick. One of the better trail riding ares in America.

Sometimes those FS roads can completely disappear. Still show up on the GPS though. I was riding by myself on one south of Emminence and thought if something bad happens the deer hunters will find me in a few months, wish I was riding with somebody. Then I thought" Glad I didn't get somebody else into this".
