So, my luggage ran me under $300 total (excluding mounts, of course) and is all lockable. I'm happy with that for now.

Aw crap... I just noticed this was in the boxer subforum... I've gotta start paying attention to the subforum when I click 'new posts!'

I ended up going the plastic route and getting 3 SKB cases that fit my needs. I mounted them on a Jesse rack that I bought off an inmate on here. I ended having to make an aluminum spacer to make up for the distance of the muffler. I have 80 liters in the two side cases and 50 on the top one. I have about 400 dollars in the cases themselves.

Those look cool...how are they removed?

I'm sure the day will come that I destroy my Zegas. At that point, I'll replace them with Pelican 1440 top loading bags.

How come I don't see any mention of Helen2wheels packing system in this thread? I had and used H2W's bags and straps before I stopped riding for a couple of years and they were great, served me well. I still have her bags/straps and intend to make use of them on the new bike. I know she's still around since I see her stuff advertised in RPW and other vendors, I just haven't seen much of her stuff shown here?

Is This Cheating?

Here's one of my luggage setups. Does a great job of carrying 'stuff'.

Hey, do we have the same bike?

2012:
35L Caribou case, 1-gallon RotoPax (perfect for Fairbanks to Coldfoot...safety), tent, sleeping bag, air mattress...no chair!
All this is ON TOP of the Caribou case. High VIZ yellow strapping around entire Caribou case. Easy access.
RokStraps are a MUST thing to have! Easy to have your street shoes on top...ready for dismount...walk around.
Much better set up! Sleeping bag made great BACK REST!

I made some ABS plastic camlocks/pucks. I originally tried to mimic what Jesse used for their bags after they didn't have any extra ones right before I left for a trip. After 9 months they are still holding up strong. All I have to do is twist the top one and it comes off. If i have use my vice grips I can get them off in about 10-15 seconds.

BTW, I know the Kolpin gas can is overkill, but it was already mounted on the Zegas when I got the so why not?

Yikes!! I would have exploded in a ball of flame several times over with that can on there. I hope it works for you.

Outfitted for my NH->TX->CO->NH 6,500 mi trip. I was over packed, but glad I had all that I did. I could have done the trip with about 1/3 less than what I took.

I'm thinking that exploding in a ball of flame would be a one time thing at best. Here's why I don't think I'll blow up. First of all, the stock muffler is gone and replaced with a stubby, that's not an issue. Secondly, I managed to take a slide on that side the other day, (slow on icy patch so nothing hurt but my pride) and the gas can didn't scrape at all. I'll let you know if it kills me some day.
