Need a mechanic in Guatemala. Urgent

HI, guys!

It seems I my stripe of bad luck continues as I got into an accident not far from Tikal. Bike leaks oil and doesn't start, error code 12-13. I need ASAP someone in Guatemala who is capable to dig into the problem. Otherwise, I will have to take it to Cancun which is tremendous pain in the $@#

Where is the oil leak?

The valve covers on the new models (2 VC bolts) will move and allow the VC gasket to pop out of place. Carefully loosen the valve cover bolts as they might be bent (you may have to loosen them a 1/4 turn turn at a time alternating between the two) then the gasket can be reset in place. The gasket has tabs that are supposed to locate it in place. These may be broken off. Just get the pieces out of the cylinder head or valve cover before you button it back up.

You can carefully straighten the bolts if they are bent. Do NOT try and use the boss on the head if straightening, use a vise of even two pairs of pliers.

You may have a broken coil or spark plug if the VC was moved very far. Otherwise, I can't help with the running issue without more info. Does it crank? Try to start and run? Or is there no response when you turn the key or push the starter? Does the instrument cluster work? We need more info to help.

Can you post a photo of the crash damaged area of the bike? It would help considerably.

I know a good guy here in Antigua, Guatemala. That's still a big haul from where you are though.

Catours, I'm already at Mex border. Decided to take it to Cancun because it seems that this time it is really serious. However, I can turn back if he is good, has time for my bike and is able to get fast all the necessary spares. Can you ask him or send me his phone number?

And in order to answer previous posts - now it is an engine problem so it is way above my head and I don't want to make problems worse with the crippled hands of mine

Is the bike still in running conditions? I would take it to the BMW dealer in Guatemala City ,by far a better option as Cancun .

If you were able to offer good info about the problems and some pics, it would be like fleas on a dog with people offering you solid advice.

I really hate to see this stuff. And this kinda thing won't magically go away forever unless you educate yourself to some degree.

Many thanks to Catours! I'm now in Antigua with Taz, who seems to be very experienced mechanic. Looks like there is nothing serious - because of the accident valve cover moved and there was an oil spill that caused the error code and didn't allow to start the bike. We resealed the caps and it seems to be working fine now! :)

It feels that in order to travel on any bike even the most reliable, one has to be a pretty good mechanic himself and it takes time. But I'm studying and perhaps one day won't panic in such an easy case from mechanical standpoint

Glad you got it sorted, I saw it in pieces earlier today. Taz is usually a good man for this stuff. Stop by Moto Cafe if you get a chance before you leave town.

Well, you have had enough problems. Great news Vet
Be careful with the clutch now, its a weak point. The ceramic clutch is better then stock but still, it wont hold up under abuse.

The stock clutch on my 1150 out-lasted the engine. 160k miles.

Educate yourself, vet.
Greatly lessens the stress....
