Talking Finally someone's listening... and it's NOT KTM...

http://www.facebook.com/john.mitchin...type=1&theater

A 450cc adventure bike... with mid output/long service intervall powerplant, Fuel injection, novel rear (electronic/hydraulic) suspension pre-load adjuster (on the fly for changing load/track conditions).

CCM eh...? A little boutique manufacturer from the heyday of UK off road motorcycles. The project has been done in conjunction with RallyRaid Products UK (the good folks that brough us the much applauded Rallye Kit for KTM's 690 Enduro R) and RRUK guru John Mitchinson has been involved in the CCM/Kymco/BMW sourced project since inception... and he wouldn't put his name on a turd I reckon... so I am giving this one a preliminary thumbs up.

So maybe it's not a hard core desert racer out of the box... but in the vein of Huskvarna's new Terra 650... here is an "adventure" bike off the showroom floor... No weight spec's yet (the only thing that shocked me about the new Husky ), but aluminium frame, G450X based engine... hmmm. toss those kelvinator boxes off the side and lose the usual 5 kilos of extraneous crap they usually bolt to the rear fender (and a lighter silencer)... I'm guessing (hoping) that (+/- 5kg) ofthe 145 kg mark would not be out of the question?

Let the couch quarterbacking begin...

i cant think of anything worse than a 450 for long haul rides
when you hit those long straight roads its gotta be big bore or multi cylinder

A prototype was used in a recent movie.

Maybe not for long haul rides, not every one finds sitting on a long dirt or bitumen road their cup of tea?

Even a 600+ twin on those roads is bad enough to some.

CCM 450 Adventure
We saw the first prototype from CCM Motorcycles of their new 450cc Adventure bike today,at the NEC in Birmingham.
It will use the BMW-supplied powerplant, fuel injection & air filter assembly in their own uniquely designed forged aluminium frame.
The main rear moulded fuel tank, and the front left side moulded fuel tanks will hold 17 litres, whilst the dummy right side tank contains the air filter, for easy access.
Suspension will be 48mm forks, with linkage rear suspension, with novel electronic preload adjustment,to change settings from the switch visible in front of the bars.
This can allow adjustment for luggage weight & riding conditions,on the move.
We,at Rally-Raid Products, have been involved with this project for the last 12 months, making development parts, and are pleased to see the first show bike.
Expected production of a trail/supermoto & adventure versions are autumn 2013.

Yup, you're missing something- it' a modern 450.

So the last importers of ccm were a small mob in dandenong from memory, same people who imported VOR motorbikes, anyone remember who they were so we can ask nicely?

Kymco = reliable (best damn scoots in the world)
450 Single, 40-45Hp, with EFI = capable almost everywhere (I'm happy to do 110kph all day)
The "look" = a can of applied mud, and endless chicks smiling while yor drinking your coffee.

Sounds good to me.

If it has a smooth engine and a good spread of gearing like the WR250R and a reasonable price tag it should cover most bases for the more adventurous adventure rider.

Someone like maybe Woopwoop would be keen on one of these bikes for his day and multi day jaunts around the south east, but probably most likely for overseas markets where there isn't as much open areas to travel. Looks like it would suit smaller and lighter riders, females and first time riders, maybe also ones who carry injuries and can't handle the heavier bikes any more. Growing market in this area unfortunately!

Advantages over the other bikes, maybe none? Maybe lighter, not as tall, a complete package instead of buying bits from everywhere to build what you want.

BMW 450 motor must have had a lot of changes made to it.
