Do you want to race your ADV bike? Round 3

Well guys and Gals its getting to be that time of year again.
I am Proud that Cyclops will once again be sponsoring the Adventure bike class during this years Desert 100. Held Apil 6th and 7th in Odessa Wa

Most riders around the here know that the Stumpjumpers MC put on the premier off road race in the NW. If you have never been to this event you owe it to yourself to at least come check it out. IMO it is the single funnest MC event in the country.

The ADV class will be ran much like last years event. We start in the second wave 1 lap = approx 50 miles
Hopefully we get more racers this time around.

To entice you just a little bit
Cyclops will be giving away a set of The New Long Range LED Aux lights to the winner of the ADV class

Last year we saw perfect conditions. It was an absolute Blast to race, something that a hearty ADV bike rider should not miss. Grab your boots and line up with us for the 2013 Desert 100.

If you don't want to race, there is still a dual sport ride put on Saturday and lots of cold beer always available in the pits. If you have a pulse and like motorcycles you wont be sorry for checking out the Desert 100

What does it cost to race?

What kinds of bikes should be raced in the Adventure class?? I don't know that my "dual sports" qualify as "adventure bikes."

If I remember right it was about $40
Sorry forgot about the requirements.

652CC and up. The intention is to get the bigger bikes out there and have a competitive and fun class.
What we don't want is an XR650 entering in as an ADV bike.. Lots of class choices for the smaller bikes.

Interesting - I might be interested in entering with my KTM 690 Enduro R, but the logic above would seem to indicate I wouldn't be in the adventure class... even though it IS my adventure touring bike and I have zero racing skills...

Perhaps just the day ride before this is what I seek...

Isn't a 690 Enduro 654cc? Seems like it would qualify.

Well, he did say they don't want an XR650 entering as an adv bike, and they see the adv bikes as the "bigger guys".

I think the guideline is more spiritual, than empirical, with 650 being a figurative cut line. Bikes over that tend to be heavier rides - the GS bikes, the Tenere's, etc. Could be that the 690 Enduro would be seen as a wolf in the sheep pen... ;)

I figured the 652cc was to keep bikes like xr650l and dr650 out which are decidedly better in the dirt than say a 690 Enduro or a F650GS single.

Thats it, We want to have a good time and at least give the guys on a big GS a chance. Who's got an HP2 they want to get dirty?
There may be a few bikes that should be allowed to enter, but might not quite fit in the Size limit rule. KLR for one. Thats my own thought, not necessarily what the Stumpjumpers might think.
The CC rule just seamed to make sense and keep everything easy.

Now, I KNOW you meant to wrap that in tags, right...? ;)

Riders being equal, I'd personally suggest the KTM 690 Enduro R is better in the dirt than the DR650 (also assuming the dirt is equal, too ;) )

This whole thing doesn't apply to me as my skills are so low that you could spank me offroad on a unicycle...
