What thumper for me?

Looking to invest into a new thumper. Been a year since I bought something (KLR was last year) so I figured I'd start looking into buying another toy for the collection.

This time something that actually does offroad well

Rode my buddies KTM 525 SX thing, blew me away, looking for something just as fun, preferably nothing below 400cc. DRZ? CRF? KTM? What?

Suggestions?

(I like pingers as well but don't tell anyone )

Your going to need to divulge much more about your thumper use:
pavement, dirt roads, trails single track, etc?

The only thing that remotely compares to the KTM you rode will be another KTM, Husky, Husaberg or GasGas.

If you liked the 525, & you like 2 strokes, the anwer is simple: KTM 300 EXC. In fact all the KTM 2T bikes are a blast offroad, I've ridden a 200, & couple of vintages of 250 & 300 over the last few years & loved the lot. Reliability is pretty good too according to a couple of mates who have had 'em for a while. Have fun!

Cheers
Clint

Right, riding environment

Mainly trails, dirt, not concerned with pavement, probably never any sand. I hate riding 2 wheels in the sand, it's not fun to me.

Don't really race either so that's out.

KTM 300 eh?
