With basic skills you could do thwe lower trail no problem. Depending on which part of the upper trail its going to depend on your riding skills

I'm heading over there tonight on my Tiger 800XC, why don't you meet me there and we can "explore" together. i.e. help pick each others bike up, or

That or wait for my report...

Hmmm.....................

Sounds like a great opportunity for some wagering.

New job starts on Monday...so no more afternoon rides when there is no one on the roads.

Hoping to make for the dam sometime this weekend, just need to prepare a little go bag since it's a bit up the road from me.

kenny61-

thanks for the kind offer.

i did have today off and managed to get to de-greased and then lubed the z750s chain.

this was my first attempt at any motorcycle maintenance so hopefully others will keep their snickering to a low roar!

i ended up using wd40 as the de-greaser. it took about 45min (i removed the chain guard), two old toothbrushes, a bunch of orphan socks, and plenty of wd40 but afterwards the chain was clean and shiny.

once fully de-greased, i proceeded to wax the chain with the yellow can dupont chain wax (new formulation). i sprayed plenty on, let it soak in for about 20 minutes then lightly wiped away the excess.

i then took the bike out for a 10 minute ride around the neighborhood. there did not appear to be any splatter. yeah.

i'll ride tomorrow morning and when i return with the chain plenty warm, i'll re-apply a very light mist of the chain wax.

i'm hoping the above will prove to be a good step towards preventive maintenance.

ymmv

be well.

rob

This.

A good pressure washer will do 90% of the degreasing for you. A chain brush will most of the rest pretty quickly too.

Personally, not that it is the recommended method by any intelligent authority, but I put it on the lift, let it idle, and just click it into 1st gear. It works pretty quickly, but you definitely don't want to make the slightest mistake. ... And don't blip the throddle while it's in gear.
