Racing old junk on ice???? sure why not:)))

Well My 1 st post on ADV and i thought is start it with this :) Ive been lurking here for quite some time and thought id fill you in on a little project that we starting to compete next winter in the 24 hour num bum ice race in Alberta Canada.So quick history lesson i guess , Ive been ice racing for about 6 years years and road racing for about the same . I dont race to win as per say because im old and genrally race older stuff just cause i like it .

So friend of ours who is prepping to do the baja 250 and 500 this year and has raced with us for some time has dare us to prep a ancinet cr500 Husky that is currently rotting in my living room . ( Yes im divorced:)) So i thought it be a good idea to use this forums and its knolowdge to get ideas and see what can be done . Here is our plan thus far after a few pints last nigh

- Complete front end swap froma newer bike porb a honda for good brakes( looking for one anything got something kicking?)
- motor re build( try to coat the cyl to make it last longer if this can be done?)
-endurance tank from a wr426( we have that)
- re balace the rear shocks with something that works? ( need ideas here)
-Run the bike in some hare scrambles and genral trails locally to sort it out


any suggestions to the plan? pics to arrive tonight

I'm sure you'll get some great advice here.
You may want to also post on cafehusky.com Plenty of people with experience in vintage Husky's there. May even be 1 or 2 members there who have raced those bikes in Baja.
